A wonderful sunny afternoon in Nuriootpa; the Barossa Valley’s big town, tasting at the production facility with owner Kym Teusner; wines of his name. The foremost drink was the ex-Neopolitan variety fiano Lucius, packed up in a riesling bottle to impress on us it is bright and crisp, which it is (12%). Kym has enjoyed commercial success with his modernistic approach to easy drinkable styles of Barossa reds; the first a 2024 juicy/light unwooded grenache followed by a favourite, 2024 Joshua GMS, grenache, mourvedre, shiraz also unwooded, 65% grenache; then 2023 Avatar, serious GSM, old oak aged, 50% grenache; substantive blend; then a bottle all mataro/mourvedre 2022 Mataro; not a monster but a juicy black sweets style. The finale was an associated single vineyard blend …..MSG 2022 mataro shiraz grenache known as Utopos; clever, classy, it had a hunger for new oak, a rare example in this Teusner tasting. Notes by Peter Scudamore-Smith MW hosting the 2026 Fine Vintage Ltd North America Luxury Wine Tour To Australia.

Summer seafood, matched with appropriate wine 🍤
It’s always a pleasure to offer my wine recommendations. This one; best pairings for seafood sauces created by Eat, Drink and Be Kerry.
I’ve paired two contemporary Queensland wines that really suit the natural sweetness of seafood.
The 2024 Ridgemill Riesling brings bright lemon and lime sherbet notes, keeping things crisp and lively alongside the platter. For richer seafood, the 2025 Rokkwell Nebbiolo Rosé adds floral lift and red fruit character, with enough structure to sit comfortably without overpowering the dish.
Simple, fresh and very much in tune with Australian summer. Try them for yourself.

Limoncello trifle anyone? 🍋
A pleasure to offer pairing suggestions for Eat, Drink and Be Kerry for their decadent limoncello trifle.
The key here is balance, indulgent but never heavy.
Master of Wine, Peter Scudamore-Smith, supplied Barambah Rack Dried Semillon 2019 as the right choice. A Queensland wine made using traditionally dried semillon grapes, it’s an elegant match for citrus desserts, especially when served lightly chilled in small glasses.
Refined, refreshing and a beautiful way to finish a summer meal.
