Thank you everyone for your kind and generous gifts. I am so deeply touched. I feel so honoured to share my love and passion for music with all of my students. It is something that I have been doing for decades and loving the growth and the maturity that I have witnessed within myself teaching so many students with various abilities. The student concert turned out great last weekend and I got so much positive feedback from parents. Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart!

How To Write A Song In 5 Minutes On The Piano 06/08/2021

I often asked my students to make up their own songs. Here are some tips that I want to share.

1. Think of the mood of the song by thinking about the theme of the song that you want to write about.
2. Chord progression: Chords harness the harmony of the song, repeat the chords to make it into a loop.
3. Melody line: Notes from the melody often comes from the chord and it can be either move by steps or skips and leaps.
4. Structure of the song can be either verses and chorus; divide into separate sections such as A B or A B A.
5. Trial and error: there's no right or wrong in composing your own song. Be daring and brave!

Tokio Myers: Pianist STUNS the Judges With BRILLIANT Act | Britain’s Got Talent 22/07/2021

I love the way that this pianist started with Debussy, and then mixes it with Ed Sheeran's Bloodstream and adds synth sound to create thicker texture and awesome sound effect. This is a perfect example of the endless possibilities on what you can do to create your own song. Hope you enjoy this clip as much as I did.

The beauty of knowing how to play the piano is that you can entertain yourself at home during lockdown. This is a skill for life and you will never lose it (unless due to major illness). I hope everyone will use the holiday time to create music and to make your spirit soar!

Wind in the treetops, by Aidan, 6, 6/4/21 13/06/2021

It is so beautiful to see the child of my student is inspired to play and make up his own song. This shows the power of parental influence. His mum is probably one of the most dedicated adult student whom I have ever taught. She practices everyday and now her son is playing on the piano on his own accord. What a lovely video. Thank you Amy!

It is really cool to read in a literature that adding movement to music is great for memory, attentiveness, concentration, communication, social skills, imagination and creativity. I often include that in my piano teaching and to ask my students to think of a story to accompany a piece of music. This literature, entitled "Ways to enhance embodied learning in Dalcroze-inspired music education" by Marija Juntunen is such an insightful read.
