Georgina Smith (or Georgie) set up this service in 2007 in response to her desire to give children a more natural upbringing and keen to bring her own philosophy about care and learning into a smaller more responsive setting. Georgie’s home is situated in the foothills of Mt Cootha on the corner of Barrabooka Drive and Tallawong Place, The Gap. She lives in the main house upstairs. The children of

It is with very mixed feelings that I am retiring on the 20th December, 2018. I’m closing the centre to pursue the life of a retiree - family, travel and volunteering! I’m very excited about this new chapter and wish to thank all my children and their wonderful families for the most fulfilling period of my career. Each child that I have taught is just so different from the next which makes education so interesting. The families have shared their children with me and together we have created the optimum environment for success - healthy food, safety, security, socialisation, age appropriate experiences both in the home and in the wider community and heaps of love and guidance. Thank you for this amazing close to my career. Sincerely- Georgie

We are so lucky to have such wonderfully interesting experiences. Here is just one where I took my three Thursday group children to GOMA last week.

We have had such a wonderful first week of Term. We welcomed two new children on Tuesday. Their first day was made happy and relaxing with their Nana and Mummy being able to stay. Although we had a lot of rain the children were eager to get involved in the program. With breaks in the rain we were able to exercise those large muscles climbing, jumping the rope, riding bikes and throwing the balls into a tyre. When it was too wet the gym mat came out and lots of long body rolls, frog leaping and jumping to "Popcorn" tired out their bodies so that we were ready to engage in quieter Indoor play.
To encourage a strong feeling of family inclusion and emotional stability plus foster language I asked our enthusiastic parents to email some photos of their holiday and/or bring in some items for our Interest/Science table. So many interesting photos came flooding in as well as a treasured body board and a huge sunflower head that was put out for limited display. (We have to be so careful with safety. It is our first priority!) The children are already enjoying remembering their holiday and being able to share those experiences with all their friends.
In art, this week, my aim was to encourage strokes on paper for the younger ones and more finger control in readiness for writing in the older children. We used very colourful smaller crayons on black card and just one colour paint at the easel. Using just one colour also encourages colour recognition as well as figurative drawing in the older children as they don't lose track of their ideas by bringing in a secondary idea of mixing colours!

Happy New Year! The children will start back at Georgie's Educational Home Care tomorrow (Tues). We are excited for the new year with many educational things planned.

The children had an interesting excursion to see an ocean liner berthed at Dockside. For the little boys the scurrying forklifts were more interesting than the huge ship whilst the girls were more interested in how many people were boarding.

Another lovely testimonial from our current parent Loreena Merko. Thank you so much Loreena! Read below:

"Georgie is so much more than a carer, she becomes a beloved extension of your family. I have learnt so much from her and so has my son. She is calm, patient, empathetic, imaginative and a very good cook! My son will miss Georgie's menu when he is off to school next year. If you want to have your children somewhere where you can truly trust that they will get the best care and learn a wide variety of things and skills then you simply can't go past Georgie's educational home care."
