Couldn’t agree more. Lifeguarding during major sporting events is a unique job, whether it’s an open-water swim, triathlon or a packed competition at a pool.

Crowded lanes, turbulence, noise, fatigue and athletes pushing themselves to their limits can make it much harder to recognise when someone is genuinely in trouble. Lifeguards need to remain focused, read the environment and be ready to make quick decisions, often in the middle of a fast-moving event.

It’s a side of lifeguarding that spectators rarely see, but one that plays a critical role in keeping every competitor safe.

The swim start might look like a race to spectators, but for triathlon lifeguards it’s something else entirely - a fast-moving, high-pressure environment where awareness and decision-making are critical.

To mark World Drowning Prevention Day, we went on a bit of a training blitz this weekend! 🌊

Our trainers were out in force in Mackay, Rockhampton and Brisbane, training the next generation of pool lifeguards and swim teachers.

Pool lifeguards are on the frontline of drowning prevention every day, spotting risks early, stepping in before things go wrong and being ready to respond when seconds matter. Swim teachers play a huge role by building safer, stronger and more confident swimmers from the very beginning.

And we may have gone a little further afield too, with a Pool Lifeguard session running in Malaysia… 👀🇲🇾
