It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Brisbane Grammar School teacher Wayne Zeller, who taught at the School from 1985 to 2007.

Wayne was a fine scholar and an exceptional teacher. He was admired by colleagues and students alike for his expertise in language and literature, his generosity in developing curriculum resources and his genuine enthusiasm for teaching.

Affectionately known as "Fuzzy", Wayne was respected for his warm nature and inspired generations of BGS students through both the classroom and cocurricular life, having coached cricket, debating and chess during his time at the School.

Our thoughts are with Wayne's family, friends and all who knew him during this difficult time.

Congratulations to BGS Old Boy Aiden Frick '20 on his selection as a travelling reserve for the Australian gymnastics team ahead of next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Aiden said he welcomed the opportunity to “rub shoulders” with the nation’s elite gymnasts after representing Australia at this year’s Paris and Szombathely International Gymnastics Federation World Challenge Cups.

His selection comes as new figures released by Gymnastics Queensland reveal participation across the state is expected to increase by at least 40 per cent by 2032, highlighting growing interest in the sport ahead of Brisbane's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We wish Aiden all the best for this exciting opportunity.

On the weekend, we welcomed back 70 Old Boys from the Class of 2006 for their 20 Year reunion. The afternoon began with a tour of BGS led by Deputy Headmaster of Teaching and Learning, Steve Uscinski. The tour provided an opportunity to see what has changed across the campus over the past two decades, while also reflecting on what has remained the same.

It was wonderful to celebrate this cohort and acknowledge their lifelong connection to BGS.

It is inspiring to see Old Boy Sachinka Ranasinghe ’09 making a meaningful impact in his field.

Currently serving as a urologist at Mater Hospital, Sachinka recently completed a robotic surgery fellowship at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the United Kingdom. Through this experience, he became involved with Urolink, a charitable organisation dedicated to training surgeons in low and middle income countries around the world.

As part of this initiative, Sachinka spent a week in Ethiopia, where he worked with local surgeons to develop skills in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of large kidney stones. He also conducted urology workshops focused on emergency management, contributing to the ongoing development of critical surgical skills in the region.

It is commendable to see members of our Old Boys’ community not only excelling in their respective medical fields, but also giving back by supporting communities around the world.

It has been 60 years since the Class of 1966 last walked through the gates at BGS as students.

It was wonderful to welcome back 55 Old Boys for their 60 year reunion last weekend. The event began with a tour of the school, followed by a special dinner in the Great Hall, where guests enjoyed a presentation from our School Archivist, Chris Price.

The reunion was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect and celebrate lifelong ties to BGS.
