✨ AN INCREDIBLE THREE DAYS AT QNB ✨

This week, Queensland National Ballet School had the privilege of hosting the incredible 4Pointe Training Course, led by Lynne Charles, Artistic Director of English National Ballet School.

Our QNB students and teachers have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Lynne closely over the past three days, gaining invaluable knowledge, corrections and insight from one of the industry’s highly respected ballet educators.

On Wednesday, our students also had the privilege of taking their own class with Lynne Charles — an inspiring opportunity to learn, grow and experience her expertise firsthand.

A very special few days of learning, inspiration and development. 🩰✨

DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE 3 WAYS TO AUDITION FOR QNB?

We are currently holding auditions by appointment to secure our 2027 places at Queensland National Ballet School.

At QNB, we believe an audition should be about much more than simply assessing technique. It should give both the student and QNB the opportunity to get to know one another.

That’s why we prefer private, personalised auditions wherever possible.

We want to see how each dancer responds to corrections, adapts to new ideas, works with our teachers and approaches their training. Just as importantly, we want students to experience our teachers, training and environment so they can genuinely see what being part of QNB feels like.

We are incredibly proud of the supportive, individual and special environment we have created at QNB — and we want prospective students to experience it for themselves.

✨ 3 WAYS TO AUDITION
01 | PRIVATE AUDITION
A 30-minute private ballet audition with QNB Principal Director Tracey Fleming, followed by a personal discussion about your training, goals and potential pathways at QNB.
Families also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our courses and opportunities.

02 | FULL-TIME EXPERIENCE MORNING
Step into the life of a QNB full-time student and join us for a morning of training from 9:30am–12:15pm.
Train alongside our students, meet our teachers and experience our training environment firsthand, followed by a discussion with Principal Director Tracey Fleming.

03 | VIDEO AUDITION
For interstate, New Zealand and students unable to attend in person, video auditions are available.
Students accepted via video audition are also warmly invited to spend a couple of days training with us at QNB before commencing their course.

TO OUR FELLOW DANCE SCHOOLS

We want to work together. Build our dance community. Support one another. And, most importantly, support our dancers.

At QNB, we have the utmost respect for the studios and teachers who have shaped each dancer before they come through our doors.

You built their foundations. You taught them to love dance, developed their work ethic and discipline, nurtured their talent and gave them the confidence to dream bigger.

The transition from an afternoon dance school into part-time or full-time vocational training should never create conflict. It should be a beautiful, natural progression in a dancer’s journey — with their home studio remaining an important part of that journey.

If you have a young aspiring dancer who is ready to take the next step towards full-time training, send them to a school you can trust — one that will keep the lines of communication open, respect the work you have already done and work collaboratively with you.

At QNB, we want our fellow teachers to know that our door is always open. We want to communicate with you, work alongside you and support your dancer’s transition together.

Where possible, dancers can remain connected to their home studios through classes, examinations, competitions and performances, while receiving the additional vocational training required for the next stage of their development.

What makes Queensland National Ballet School different?

01 — DO QNB STUDENTS COMPETE?
Competitions have their place, but they are not the foundation of our training. At QNB, we train dancers for the professional stage — developing the technique, artistry, discipline and versatility required for the professional dance world.

02 — IS QNB A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT?
We believe every student runs their own race. Fellow dancers are there to inspire, encourage and support one another — not to be pitted against each other. We believe dancers thrive when they can grow together in a healthy, positive and professional environment.

03 — IS THE FOCUS JUST ON TECHNIQUE?
Great dancers need more than technique. We believe in the balance of exceptional technical training and genuine performance experience, developing artistry, confidence, musicality and stagecraft alongside strong technical foundations.

Our students are taught every week by highly respected teachers who have enjoyed professional careers on stages around the world. 05 — HOW DO WE TRAIN?
Our classical ballet training is grounded in the Russian Vaganova Method, developing strength, coordination, artistry and strong classical foundations. Combined with elite training and genuine performance opportunities, we prepare dancers for the expectations of the professional dance world.

Congratulations to all of our beautiful dancers, from our youngest Junior Extension students through to our Full-Time dancers, who took to the stage for Queensland National Ballet School’s 2026 Showcase.

What a spectacular evening of dance, artistry and passion. Watching every level of our school come together on one stage and seeing the progression, dedication and growth of our dancers was incredibly special.

This is where training meets artistry.
Where technique becomes expression.
Where confidence grows.
And where artists are born.

We are so incredibly proud of each and every dancer who stepped onto that stage and shared a piece of themselves with our audience.

FACULTY ANNOUNCEMENT 🩰✨

We are so thrilled to announce another incredible addition to the QNB faculty — Rafaela Morel Rafaela Morel 🇧🇷🇦🇺

Brazilian-trained, Rafaela is a professional ballet dancer, ballet teacher and yoga instructor with more than 14 years of professional performance experience.
Rafaela trained at the prestigious Bolshoi Theatre School in Brazil, completing a Technician in Classical Dance qualification through intensive Vaganova based Russian ballet training.

Her professional career began with the Young Company of the Bolshoi Theatre School before taking her internationally to established ballet organisations across Russia, including the State Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre – Primorsky Branch, and Ural Opera and Ballet Theatre, where she was promoted to Soloist. She later continued her career as a Soloist with Astana Ballet in Kazakhstan.

We are incredibly excited to have Rafaela bring her extensive professional stage experience, beautiful classical training and international knowledge into the studios at QNB.
