One of the many ways in which we support students to prepare for their futures is through our Aspiring Young Women’s Network, a series providing opportunities for secondary school students to hear firsthand from alumni who have transitioned to university or into their chosen field.

Their valuable insights and lessons help our senior students to gain an understanding and clarity about their future career direction from someone who has trodden the same path before them.

This term, we welcomed Old Girl Brittany Luhrs (’13) to share her journey from St Margaret’s to a career in the creative industries, working as the Senior Marketing Coordinator at Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Britt shared her wisdom with students, encouraging them to listen to the advice of people they respect and align with, while also trusting their own instincts and urging them to embrace opportunities, even when they do not feel completely ready. She also highlighted the importance of learning to pivot when life brings challenges or unexpected change and to make the best of new circumstances.

Our students were inspired by Britt’s message of courage, self-belief and growth: “Have faith in yourself, stay open to learning, and trust that each experience can help shape the next step in your journey.”

Thank you to St Margaret's Old Girls' Association and Pitcher Partners for their support of this event.

This week, our primary students are participating in Camp, Community and Care Week. Our youngest learners are participating in activities at school, while our Years 4, 5 and 6 students have ventured north and south of Brisbane and even interstate, travelling to the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast Hinterland and Canberra.

In Canberra, where the weather is currently a chilly 12.4 degrees ❄, the girls are enjoying exploring key attractions in our nation’s capital. Itinerary highlights include a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport, the National Museum of Australia, the National Gallery and Questacon. Visiting the Australian War Memorial was made extra special for Ivie who was able to observe her great grandfather by placing a poppy on the Remembrance Wall.

A highlight was their visit to Parliament House where they could make real world connections with their weeks of learning about Australia's parliamentary system in the classroom.

Congratulations to our AFLQ Schools Cup team on today's win at the Brisbane South gala day! 🏉

The team, consisting of Years 9 and 10 students and a few Year 8 girls, won all four games and will move forward to the regional final in early Term 3.

The AFLQ Schools Cup is Queensland's premier AFL school sport competition, so this is a wonderful achievement for the girls.

At St Margaret's, it is our belief that engaging our students in entrepreneurial studies while at school will arm them with a set of highly transferrable skills they will be able to deploy in the future no matter what their pathway.

Recently, a group of Year 9 students attended the Young Entrepreneur Summit (YES), an interactive event designed to inspire and empower a generation of brave, creative and entrepreneurial young leaders.

The students heard from keynote speakers as well as young entrepreneurs and participated in activities aimed at developing their networking, presentation and promotion skills. Their learnings culminated in a Shark Tank style pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs.

It was a dynamic learning experience that has fuelled the girls’ entrepreneurial spirit, which they are excited to impart to their fellow budding and ambitious future leaders in class.

Our Staff vs Student Basketball match brought a little friendly rivalry and a fantastic display of skill and school spirit to the courts. ⛹🏀

Our students played brilliantly, but the staff team took the win this time 👏 (ok, we'll let them have the bragging rights... for now). 😉

Well done to everyone for an exciting, good-spirited game. We're looking forward to the next staff vs student matches in Terms 3 and 4.

This term in Year 8 English, the students have been studying love poetry, looking at different ways that we love and how we are loved by others. As a way to consolidate their learning, this week the students created their own 'zines' - small self-published colour magazines - all on the theme of love. The cohort then hosted a zine fair in the canopy cafe, where all students were encouraged to come and read and take the zines they loved.

This time two weeks ago, Circular Drive came alive at lunchtime for Live on the Drive, a vibrant showcase of talent from our primary and secondary rock bands. With guitars strumming, drums beating and voices soaring, the atmosphere was electric… and the dancing? Absolutely joyous!

Students and staff couldn’t help but join in the joy, turning an ordinary lunch break into a celebration of music, confidence and connection. 🎸🎤🎶

On Sunday 2 June, 42 St Margaret's students travelled to Sunshine Coast Grammar to compete at the RLSSQ 2026 Secondary School State Lifesaving Championships — and they delivered.

Not only did they retain the Sheena Dyason Shield for Champion School Female, but also brought home the Judith Beal Shield as overall champions for the school.

A fantastic result that reflects their hard work and commitment. Well done to every student who competed. 🤎🤍💙🏆
