St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School is an independent girls school for day and boarding students from Pre-Prep to Year 12. There are approximately 500 girls in the primary school and 950 in the secondary school. Boarding has been an integral part of the school’s life since it first opened. Currently around 190 girls from Years 5 – 12 are accommodated in the boarding house. St Margaret's was named Boarding School of the Year in the 2019, 2020 and 2025 in the Australian Education Awards

St Margaret’s has a proud history dating back to its establishment in 1895 by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent who believe that "one of the best gifts that we as a society can give young women for an empowered future that contributes to the common good is an education". This enduring educational vision is as true now as it was then. St Margaret’s is renowned for its holistic approach to educating the whole child. It encourages a rich extracurricular life across sport, music, and the arts, as well as multiple clubs and activities, while providing outstanding academic and pathways programs. Ten boarders saddled up over the long weekend, donning their akubras in place of panamas to represent St Margaret’s at the 2026 Ariat High School Campdraft Percentile Cup at the Pittsworth Showgrounds.

St Margaret’s placed 12th out of 38 schools and over 300 young riders from Queensland and New South Wales – congratulations to The Southport School who placed 1st.

This was the 9th year St Margaret’s boarders competed, an opportunity that is all thanks to Old Girl Emily Curr ('20) who initiated the High School Campdraft when she was a boarder in 2017. This was also the first year St Margaret’s took the reins in hosting the event and we are very grateful to the organising committee of boarding parents who coordinated sponsors, cattle donors and supported their daughters with everything from preparing, transporting and presenting their horses to cheering from the sidelines.

St Margaret's Anglican Girls School is pleased to announce Ms Lindsay McQuattie as its new Deputy Principal, commencing January 2027.

Ms McQuattie joins St Margaret's following an extensive career at John Paul College where she has served as Deputy Principal, providing whole college leadership as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, supporting a large community of staff, students, and families.

We look forward to welcoming Ms McQuattie into the St Margaret’s community in the new year.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate St Margaret’s Year 10 students Emily and Allegra who have each achieved remarkable success, being accepted into highly competitive performing arts programs.

Emily has secured a place in Griffith University’s Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT) 2026 cohort while Allegra has joined the Ballet Theatre Queensland (BTQ) company cast. You can read more about the girls’ achievements here: https://tinyurl.com/5x6rd5m8

On the last day of Term 3, our St Margaret’s athletes competed at the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association Track and Field Championships, placing 5th overall in the aggregate cup and 5th in the percentage cup.

Highlights from the day included:
- 13, 14 and 15 years age groups placed 3rd
- 14/24 top 3 placements in 100m across all divisions and age groups
- 3/5 high jumpers placed in the top three
- Annabelle S broke the 16 years, division B javelin record with a throw of 37.27m
- Erin G achieved a four-way tie for 1st place in Most Individual Points, winning the 100m, 200m and 100m hurdles

This term, 28 of our Year 10 students are taking their learning far beyond the classroom as they embark on studying abroad through St Margaret’s signature Global Exchange Program.

Ten of our girls have already touched down in South Africa and were greeted with open arms by the wonderful community at St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls.

Exchange is about much more than travel; it is an immersive learning experience. As our students step into new classrooms, adapt to difference routines and build friendships across borders, they develop the resilience, curiosity and cultural understanding that define true global citizens.

Over the coming weeks, more of our students will be heading out to all four corners of the globe, joining partner schools in the USA, Germany and Japan as well as St Anne’s Diocesan College in South Africa.

Thank you to the staff, host families and students at St Mary’s for giving our girls such a warm welcome to start their journey. We look forward to hearing more about their adventures on exchange.

As the end of Term 3 drew closer, St Margaret’s mums gathered at The Greek Club for the annual P&F Mothers’ Luncheon.

While it is always a wonderful opportunity for our mums to strengthen bonds and celebrate the important role mothers play in our students’ lives and education, the event also raised funds for St Margaret’s new performing Arts Precinct.

When two of our past students Jane Maclean (’62) and Anne Green (nee Mant, ’61) learnt of the plans for the construction of St Margaret’s new performing Arts Precinct, they knew instantly they wanted to honour a woman who shaped both their family and our school community. Together, the sisters have made a gift in memory of their late aunt and Old Girl Marjorie Johnstone (nee Mant, ’29) whose lifelong love for the arts began at St Margaret’s, learning music from one of the Sisters.

Her early experiences at school grew into a dedicated career, first as an actress and later running one of Australia’s most famous commercial art galleries with her husband Brian, The Johnstone Gallery. Her life was a reflection of how deeply early creative opportunities can shape a person’s path. You can read more about their family story here: https://tinyurl.com/2ud78p86

To carry Marjorie’s legacy forward, her nieces have directed their support toward our new performing Arts Precinct. Their gift will help build the spaces where current and future St Margaret’s students can find their own creative voices, step into the spotlight, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.
