Books 4 PNG Kids We accept donations of young children's books up to Grade 8 books. Please no textbooks (unless requested). We need your help! They, above all, DESERVE your help.

Books 4 PNG KIDS is a Brisbane based book collection organisation with many willing helpers too numerous to mention here . Through donations from local schools, libraries, and often individuals, we receive and ship out hundreds of boxes of books to various areas of Papua New
Guinea each year. Having done business in PNG for over 20 years, we have developed many strong connections with indigenous people and have developed an inspiring and intimate relationship with some of the most remote villages on the planet. Having these connections, we have compiled a long list (most upon request!) of just some of the many schools that are in dire need of help building up and maintaining their libraries and school textbook resources. With each trip made back to PNG, there are always more schools with eager children being added to the ever-growing list of places that are in need of YOUR USED AND NEW BOOKS, textbooks, children's picture books, early reading books, dictionaries, primary-school non-fiction books and magazines. With each shipment made back to PNG, there are always the hopeful, smiling faces of those children, beaming with appreciation and gratitude for each book they receive from our donors. The peoples of PNG are unfortunate in their lacking education system and isolation from all the modern resources that first world countries have available, but so fortunate are they (and we) that they have the unwaivering optimism and hope to to increase the level of education for their people and their children! Papua New Guineans are beautiful, genuine people, and their needs are great for the resources and materials to help guide their children and themselves towards a better educated and more promising future. BRILLIANT VOLUNTEERS! 💁📚🙋
Take a look at this marvellous team.

These students from Brisbane Christian College, Salisbury, are the ones to call if you want to get things done!

They recently volunteered for a day at Books 4 PNG Kids’ factory on Brisbane’s southside and put in such an impressive day’s work that there was nothing left to be done once they’d finished.

By day’s end there wasn’t a carton of books they hadn’t labelled, ready to send to PNG schools, and they also packaged hundreds of brand-new maths kits recently donated by Origo Education which will make maths fun as well as being educational for students throughout PNG.

When you consider that Origo Education donated 14 pallets of Think Tank maths kits - that’s no small feat!

Our thanks to each of these outstanding students who excelled themselves and were a credit to their school (as was the team of students from Brisbane Christian College who volunteered at Books 4 PNG Kids last year).

Your efforts will make a huge difference to the lives of fellow students in PNG.

Recently we were also pleased to welcome former PNG-based medicos David and Julie Hamilton on a flying visit to Books 4 PNG kIds.

Now retired in NZ, David, a surgeon, and Julie, a physiotherapist and author, lived and worked in PNG from the mid-1960s.

This generous couple has made successive annual book donations to Books 4 PNG Kids by commissioning the printing of thousands of copies of Julie’s books with a health message, written specifically for children and adults in PNG.

The books, published by Brisbane's Boolarong Press , include nine titles based on Julie’s experiences working and raising her family in PNG, and PNG people she met.

Julie also plans to publish and donate copies of a guide she has written for PNG people to help children with Cerebral Palsy.

The practical guide also features illustrations by artist Base Tarcissus and Julie’s paintings.

ROAD TO LITERACY
The future is now brighter for these young children at a remote Okapa District school in PNG’s Highlands.
With books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids and solar lights delivered by Project YUMI and Waniati Maternal Waiting Home , these pupils at Kaga Early Learning Centre have received a significant boost as they start their educational journey.
To deliver the books, the team from Goroka-based Waniati Maternal Waiting Home travelled 160km across rugged mountainous terrain to reach Kaga, which is about 50km south of Goroka (but much further by road).
It was a long journey, made even more worthwhile with others' donations of SolarBuddy Lights which will allow children to study at night, maternal care packs for the Kaga Aid Post and clothing donated for widows, orphans and others in need.
Local families were greatly uplifted by the vital outreach mission to three key community hubs, Maternal Waiting Home posted.
The maternity packs will support health care workers at Kaga Aid Post and ensure expectant mothers have critical supplies for safe deliveries.
Second-hand clothes donated to Kaga Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church will be distributed by local church leaders to care for vulnerable families and others in difficult times.
The community’s contribution of fresh vegetables highlights their generosity and also the significance of good nutrition for maternal and child health.
“Community leaders expressed their deepest appreciation for the generosity shown to their people. They gave a special vote of thanks to Waniati, Project YUMI and Books 4 PNG Kids.
"These collaborative partnerships are making a lasting impact in the Eastern Highlands, helping to empower future generations and improve community well-being.”

Some people support a cause. Others get behind it and make things happen.
Maino Lucas is one of those people.

Since joining the Books 4 PNG Kids journey, Maino and the incredible team at Kayop have directly helped us send FIVE full containers of books to Papua New Guinea — as well as supporting other shipments and deliveries along the way.

And getting a container to PNG is often only the beginning.
Many of the schools and communities we support are incredibly remote. Getting books those final kilometres can mean difficult roads, long distances and some serious logistical challenges.

Maino understands that.
His attitude has always been: How do we make it happen?
And then he does. 💛

His local knowledge, the support of the Kayop team and, above all, his genuine commitment to PNG children have helped thousands of books continue their journey from Australia into the hands of children who will treasure them.

This remote school in PNG’s Western Province had no books at all until this canoe delivery of a library’s worth of books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids.
Nonigire South Montfort Primary School is a 3-4-hour river trip by dugout canoe from Rumginae Station, the nearest settlement with road access.
So this delivery by Kayop Investment Limited was life-changing for everyone in the community.
Teachers were the only resources this school had - and they were carrying a lot of responsibility without any library books or other educational resources to help the children learn.
Thanks to Kayop’s ongoing Community Engagement and Education Support Program, Nonigire South Montfort Primary School and Yenkenai Primary School now have books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids.
Under Books 4 PNG Kids’ partnership with Kayop, many remote North Fly District schools have received books shipped by Kayop from Brisbane-PNG.
The delivery to Yekenai Primary School was easier as the school is along the Kiunga-Tabubil Highway, 70km from the mining town of Tabubil.
More than 400 students will benefit directly from the delivery, while future generations of students will also have the opportunity to learn from and enjoy these resources, Kayop Investment Limited posted.
Kayop also provided food rations to teachers in recognition of their dedication, sacrifice and important role in educating children.
“Education is not simply about books and classrooms. Education creates opportunities ... Education changes lives.”
The delivery demonstrated the commitment of Kayop's owner and MD Maino Lucas to North Fly communities and children's education, Kayop posted.
“Our children are the future leaders, professionals, skilled workers, entrepreneurs and community leaders of tomorrow.
"Supporting their education today is an investment in the future of North Fly and PNG.”

HAPPY DAY
Smiling faces say it all for these students at Baia (or Baya) Primary School in PNG’s West New Britain (WNB) Province.
They’ve just received books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids, shipped to PNG by West Klos/Clothing in Kimbe and delivered by Tiana Reimann of Bucket of Love Foundation PNG.
There should soon be more smiling faces at other local schools thanks to more than 300 boxes of books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids and West Klos.
Tiana and The Bucket of Love Foundation will be delivering them with the support of Malama Enterprises, Liamo Reef Resort & Baia Sportfishing PNG.
It’s a real team effort reaching rural schools around these islands where many schools lack library books, making it difficult for both teachers and students to boost literacy.
“A huge thank you to West Clothing Secondhand for generously assisting with the transportation of reading books from Brisbane all the way to Kimbe (WNB’s capital),” Tiana says.
“A very special thank you also goes to Books 4 PNG Kids and their wonderful volunteers for the incredible amount of work that goes into collecting, sorting and packing these books for children throughout PNG.
“Together, we have received over 300 boxes containing thousands of reading books!
“Through the Bucket of Love Foundation, these books will now be distributed to schools and students across the New Guinea Islands region, including WNB, East New Britain and New Ireland.”
As the photos show, classrooms at schools like Baia Primary are very different to those in Australia.
Renovations funded by The Bucket of Love Foundation are now under way to fix ceiling insulation and more, employing local labour from the Baia community.
The school also has new desks.
“For many children, access to quality reading books is limited, so every box that reaches a school creates another opportunity for children to read, learn and discover.”

These books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids and others are just what these students and teachers at this remote Eastern Highlands primary school needed.
Four dedicated volunteer teachers have been doing all they can to help students learn at Agibu SDA School but having library books will benefit everyone.

OPEN HEARTS, OPEN MINDS
Generosity knows no bounds when it comes to Books 4 PNG Kids.
We've received some amazing donations of books and educational resources recently from schools, publishers, individuals and more.
These include 14 pallets of brand-new Think Tank maths kits from Origo Education.
These kits will make maths fun - even for those who aren’t usually keen on figures.
The boxes contain quiz cards such as Speedy Starters, Mind Benders and Fast Figurers which are sure to boost students’ problem-solving abilities.
Our thanks to Origo Education (origoeducation.com.au) for their generous donations of educational resources over the years to Books 4 PNG Kids.

Belinda, who’s been teaching at Carinity for about 5 years now, must have set a good example for Maddi, who followed in her footsteps to Carinity about 1Âœ years ago!

What a surprise!
Enough books to fill a library for this school that had none in PNG’s Highlands.
Books 4 PNG Kids donated 10 boxes of books and Ferman Mombu delivered them to PNG Bible Church Tente Christian Academy in Southern Highlands Province.
The delivery came out of the blue for the school with more than 100 pupils on the outskirts of Mendi town, the provincial capital.
“We took the school by surprise,” Ferman says.
“We loaded 10 cartons of elementary supplies into our truck, drove straight to the school and donated them.”
The children were thrilled to receive, hold and open the books to read.
They’d probably never dreamed of having their own school library!
The Principal, Mrs Kera, said the school had never before received any donations like this from any organisation or government.
The books will boost literacy and encourage the students to further their education.
Our thanks to Ferman and team for delivering books donated by Books 4 PNG Kids to so many schools throughout Southern Highlands.
Books 4 PNG Kids shipped the books to Lae last year and then Ferman organised and funded their transport via the Okuk (Highlands) Highway to Southern Highlands schools.
