Get ready for July's Dirt Collectors challenge.
Opens 1st July, and there are no rules about perfection. π
July is The Wabi-Sabi Ball β inspired by the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection.
Cracks happen. Uneven shine happens. A slightly lopsided sphere happens. And this month, instead of trying to avoid all of that... we're celebrating it.
Because a crack isn't a mistake. It's proof that something real happened in your hands.
Make a dorodango in July. Let it be exactly what it is. Share it with us in The Dirt Collectors β flaws and all.
Sometimes the most beautiful thing you make is the one that didn't go to plan. π

This one broke my heart a little.
Started as this stunning deep red β glossy, rich, alive. Then it faded. Like the colour justβ¦ surrendered. Became dull and flat and honestly, I looked at it and thought, βYeah, that oneβs done.β
So I polished it again. Coaxed the gloss back. And then I just⦠let it be.
Then two little cracks appeared.
Didnβt look at it for a few months . Just sat there on the shelf.
Then one afternoon I glanced over and stopped. Actually stopped. Because what I thought was a loss turned out to be a transformation. All that fading had revealed this insane depth to the surface β layers of colour Iβd never noticed before. Speckles and gradations and this geological complexity that makes it look like youβre holding something pulled straight from the earth.
The red didnβt disappear. It justβ¦ became something more interesting.
Sometimes the pieces that scare you the most end up being your favourites.

Phones down. Hands in clay.
Dorodango is slow. It's tactile. It asks you to be completely present. It's become my Sunday ritual β no notifications, no scrolling, just clay and patience and the slow satisfaction of watching something ordinary become extraordinary.
What's your screen-free ritual? Drop it in the comments! π

We have a name. And I kind of love it.
The Dirt Collectors. π€
It started because I needed somewhere to put all the people who were quietly polishing clay into mirror-shine spheres at home and had nobody who understood why.
Inside The Dirt Collectors everyone gets it. We share our shines, troubleshoot our technique, celebrate each other's first mirror moment. It's free. It's warm. It's a little bit weird in the best possible way.
Come find your people. π€
