Congratulations to our Years 4-6 students who proudly represented St Aidan's at the Opti-MINDS Regional Competition as members of three teams: The ThinkHers, Opti-Aidan's and The Mini Shakespeares.

In our first year participating, the teams impressed with their creativity, confidence and teamwork, with The ThinkHers receiving an Honours Award and Opti-Aidan's achieving First Place in the Division 1 Primary Social Sciences Challenge.

Opti-Aidan's will now progress to the State Finals in October. What an outstanding achievement. Well done to all three teams on the commitment, creativity and teamwork they demonstrated throughout the competition.

Each year in September, our school community is invited to gather at Ambiwerra for our annual Blessing of the Animals service. This special occasion celebrates the special bond between humans and animals and is a time to give thanks for the joy and companionship they bring to our lives.

From beloved family pets to baby goat cuddles, it was a wonderful afternoon shared together as part of our St Aidan's community.

Thank you to our parent volunteers for providing afternoon tea, and to Reverend Gillian, Reverend Harry McGuire and Deacon Olaf Anderson for helping make this special tradition possible.

The Junior School Art Exhibition is a much-loved annual event and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity of our students. This year proved to be another brilliant event, with an impressive collection of work from across the Junior School.

In addition to recognising our budding artists, we also thank the many students who shared their musical talents throughout the afternoon, along with our Junior STAGE dancers, whose performances added to the occasion.

The Gala Concert is one of the highlights of the St Aidan's calendar, bringing our music community and wider school community together each year at Riverlife. With more than 340 students performing in bands, choirs, string ensembles and chamber groups, the evening showcased the depth and diversity of our music program.

It was also a celebration of the friendships, teamwork and shared experiences that make music such an important part of life at St Aidan's. We commend our student musicians, and extend our thanks to the staff who make this event possible.

On Friday 4 September, we hosted Gurumba bigi for our 2027 Year 7 students as they prepare for their Senior School journey next year.

Meaning ‘hello’ in the Yuggera language of the Greater Brisbane Region, Gurumba bigi is an event designed to welcome our new students to high school, with an emphasis on belonging and community.

We enjoyed meeting our new Year 7 students and shared in a range of interactive activities throughout the day. Students also enjoyed their first Charma with their incoming House Captains and explored the Senior School experience ahead. We can't wait to see you all again soon!

In this interactive keynote and workshop, discover how the Science of Learning and Development research, along with our professional expertise, informed the creation of the St Aidan’s Learning Framework with the UQ Learning Lab.

Explore how the evidence-informed principles underpinning the framework align with our Strategic Intent and shape the pedagogical practices that empower every girl to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

Then, our special guest Dr Stephanie MacMahon will define what the Science of Learning really is, using evidence from international literature. She will invite participants to reflect on how the Science of Learning affirms and extends great teaching with a holistic focus on the learner and their context. Together we will unpack some key principles and strategies from the Science of Learning and co-design ways to enact them in practice.

This is a free event open to educators from all systems.

A helping hand to save our rare trees!

This week, the Earth Angels of St Aidan's teamed up with Sherwood and Graceville State Schools to celebrate National Threatened Species Day at Sherwood Arboretum — by planting not one, but TWO rare trees!

With guidance from Brisbane Botanic Gardens, students added a critically endangered Angle-stemmed myrtle and a near-threatened Cudgerie to the Arboretum's collection of over 1,300 Australian native trees.

The Angle-stemmed myrtle is found nowhere else on Earth except right here in Brisbane and Logan City. Back in 2001, only around 73 of these trees remained after widespread rainforest clearing along our waterways. Every new tree planted is a real step toward saving this species from extinction.

Before digging in, the students got creative with hands-on activities run by Brisbane Botanic Gardens, then celebrated with morning tea thanks to Cr Nicole Johnston.

National Threatened Species Day has been held since 1996, reminding us that almost 2,000 native plants and animals in Australia are now listed as threatened. Days like today show how even small hands can make a big difference.

Congratulations to our Andrews Cup Cricket teams on a fantastic season, with A Grade placing 2nd and C Grade placing 3rd in their divisions.

Our players showed wonderful teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the season. Thank you to Mr Liam Woods, Cricket Co-ordinator, and our coaches for their guidance and support.

A special congratulations to Year 6 Cricket Leader Alana D, who received a Spirit of Cricket Award, and thank you to everyone who helped raise funds for the Jane McGrath Foundation
