🌟 It’s National Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week, we proudly celebrate National Volunteer Week and recognise the incredible volunteers who help make Nursery Road State Special School community such a special place.

At NRSSS, our students thrive because of the generosity, care and commitment of people who give their time both within and beyond our school gates. We acknowledge and thank our dedicated parents, carers, families, community members, volunteers, partners, supporters, and students who contribute in countless ways to create meaningful opportunities and a wonderful learning environment for our students.

Across Queensland, volunteers are the backbone of local communities. Despite rising costs, increasing demands and the many pressures life brings, volunteers continue to show up with kindness, dedication and a willingness to support others. Their contribution strengthens communities and creates a lasting impact.

At NRSSS, volunteering looks different for everyone. It may be helping in classrooms, supporting excursions and programs, assisting behind the scenes, volunteering through P&C initiatives, supporting school events, helping with weeding, cheering students on at events or giving time and expertise through community partnerships. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, matters.

These acts of generosity do more than simply support events and programs, they help build connection, create opportunities, strengthen our school community and enrich the experiences of our students and staff every day.

Volunteering is also a wonderful way to connect with others, meet new people and become part of the vibrant community that surrounds our school. Our students absolutely love seeing the people around them involved in their world.

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, Your Year to Volunteer, reminds us that every act of giving makes a difference.

There is no pressure, obligation or expectation to volunteer. This is simply about creating opportunities for people to connect, contribute and help create amazing experiences for our students.

πŸ’™ To each and every volunteer we thank you! Nursery Road State Special School is stronger because of your support, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do.

Have you spotted our new communication boards around the school? πŸ‘€

We now have 9 communication boards installed across shared spaces including every playground, the office and transport spaces, to support students to communicate and engage throughout their day.

A big thank you to our Speech Language Pathology team for customising the boards for each environment.
