Earlier this month, we welcomed Yolande Brown (Bidjara) to ADC as part of First Collective Residencies in partnership with BlakDance. During this time, Yolande explored improvisation between dance and music with the ADC Company Artists, composer Frank Millward and musical trio Ensemble Sooon.

"Last week was a deeply generative week in the ADC studios, shaped by live cello, percussion and woodwind. The musicians developed an improvised score inspired by the philosophies of Henri Bergson, which I approached through the question: what might emerge if Bergson were in conversation with Indigenous Elders? This inquiry was grounded in my lived experience as a Bidjara woman and supported by Uncle Don Enoch as Elder in Residence, whose presence allowed us to further test and develop ideas in the room.

The week was intentionally open and exploratory, allowing space for play without the pressure of defined output, which led to unexpected and generative directions. From this, approximately 25 minutes of material emerged, forming the beginnings of a concept with strong potential for further development." β€” Yolande Brown

THREE // In rehearsal with Joel Bray

After initially exploring concepts of time during his First Collective Residency in July 2025, Joel Bray returned to ADC earlier this year to further develop his ideas into a short work for THREE.

"I'm fascinated by duration, and slow evolution. I think it's a bit of a challenge to the culture that we live in, and I brought that into the room with these incredible dancers. We've made a particular exploration of that idea, which is about a life cycle, like time from birth to passing, and all that entails including loss, but also joy and poetry and aloneness and togetherness."

Don't miss this moving new work when it premieres next month as part of THREE McCartney / Ritchie-Jones / Bray.
