When did you become a man?

My name is Darren Lewis, and I am the founder of Fathering Adventures.

When I ask men, if they’re married, or have ever been married, they can answer that question really quickly, really easily.
Why is that?
Well, because it was a significant moment in their lifetime.

They remember that there was some kind of ceremony that took place, whether that be in a church, or a park, or a registry office.
And more often than not, there was some kind of reception, or celebration afterwards.

When I ask men, when did they become a man, that’s a whole ‘nother story altogether.

Very few men can pinpoint a day, a time on their calendar, that they became a man.

You don’t want your son to aimlessly wander, and seemingly randomly stumble into manhood.

You want him to experience something that you never did.
A moment in time, that is intentionally marked.
Where he is called up and into, and welcomed into, either young manhood, or authentic manhood, depending on his age of course.
And where he knows what’s expected of him, beyond that experience, and he’s also given a compass, direction that will help him to navigate through the rest of his journey through life, as a man.

You shouldn’t leave your son to somehow eventually stumble into manhood.

And with the help of Fathering Adventures, you won’t!

What is the opposite of masculinity?

My name is Darren Lewis, and I am the founder of Fathering Adventures.

Femininity is not the opposite of masculinity.
Femininity and masculinity actually complement one another.

Passivity is the opposite of masculinity.

Passivity is the act of saying nothing, or doing nothing, when you should say something, or should do something.

Yale sociologist, Steven Clark, studied masculinity for 15 years.
And the conclusion of his study can be summed up in this following statement, “For whatever reason, men have a natural tendency to avoid social responsibility.”.

What Steven Clark is saying there, is that men have this natural tendency to fall into passivity in social arenas.
Even men who are anything but passive in business, and in sports, can still fall into passivity in the home, in their roles as husbands, and as fathers.

You shouldn’t allow yourself to remain passive, or indifferent.

And with the help of Fathering Adventures, you won’t!

You’re Passing This Down To Your Kids (And Don’t Even Know It) 26/03/2026

Our founder, facilitator, and fatherhood coach, Darren Lewis, had a great conversation with Andrew Gray on his YouTube channel, "The Man Show w/ Andrew Gray", recently.
It was great to be interviewed by someone who has been in this space for as long as Andrew has.
We encourage you to watch their interview, here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRTtzk23Ghc .

You’re Passing This Down To Your Kids (And Don’t Even Know It) Fatherlessness is silently shaping the next generation—and most men don’t even realise it. In this episode, we unpack the “father wound” and how intentional ...

You cannot become what you cannot define!

My name is Darren Lewis, and I am the founder of Fathering Adventures.

What’s your definition of manhood?
What’s your vision for manhood, and will it last for a lifetime?

If you can’t articulate that in a clear and compelling way, and most men can’t by the way, then how can you impart that to your son, who desperately needs that to successfully navigate throughout his lifetime ahead, as a man?

You shouldn’t leave your son without a guide in his journey to manhood.

And with the help of Fathering Adventures, you won’t!

Masculinity is not toxic. It’s the absence of true masculinity that is.

My name is Darren Lewis, and I am the founder of Fathering Adventures.

Best-selling author, John Eldredge, tells us that, “Masculinity is bestowed by masculinity.”.

Healthy, life-giving masculinity was always meant to be passed down from fathers to their sons, within a community of other men.
Sadly that very rarely happens today, and hasn’t done for generations now.

Is it any wonder why Andrew Tate and the “manosphere” was so popular amongst teenage boys during their critical periods of identity formation?

You shouldn’t leave your son to his own devices to discover and embrace some random form of masculinity, that is not masculinity at all.

And with the help of Fathering Adventures, you won’t!

Louis Theroux’s latest documentary, “Inside the Manosphere”, was a hard watch, but a great and vitally important documentary that everyone should watch. He is an absolute master of his craft.
Friends, we all know that “Prevention is better than cure”, and as parents, we must intervene into our teens' lives, and offer our sons, and our daughters, what they need...

Beyond a loving mother... sons need a present and engaged father, or father-figure, who is intentional, a clear & compelling vision for what authentic, healthy, and life-giving manhood actually looks like, a significant moment where he is invited / called out of boyhood and up and into young manhood, and eventual authentic manhood when the time comes, and welcomed into a healthy community of men who support him into his future.

And our daughters also desperately need a present and engaged father, or father-figure, who is intentional in investing into his relationship with her, and gives her healthy love and attention, appropriate affection, and affirmation.

For almost 18 years now, we have been working with sons and daughters, separately of course, and their Dads or father-figures, and it has made the world of difference in their lives, relationships, and families, and our desire is to keep fighting this good flight, for decades more to come.

We encourage you to explore our various guided “Rite of Passage” Son and Father, and Daughter and Father, Adventure experience, at the ‘Fathering Adventures’ website, now.

Becoming an adult has nothing to do with age!

My name is Darren Lewis, and I am the founder of Fathering Adventures.

When it comes to children in adults’ bodies, self is the focus.
It’s a selfish, self-centred, self-serving existence.
It's a “What’s in it for me?” approach to life.
Children in adult bodies are like black holes, they’re always drawing life and energy towards themselves, they’re always taking.

Adulthood on the other hand, is far more rare. Its focus is others.
On loving others, supporting others, encouraging others, empowering others.
It's a “What can I do for you?” approach to life.
Instead of being a black hole, they are a star, or a sun, always giving life and energy to others.

A movie I saw in the last couple of years, put it this way… adults are like fountains, and children in adults’ bodies are like drains.

You shouldn’t allow your children to just get older, becoming children in adults’ bodies, black holes, or drains.

And with the help of Fathering Adventures, you won’t!

Photos from Fathering Adventures's post 08/03/2026

Here is a selection of photos from just a few of the father-daughter pairs (daughters in the 8-13 years inclusive age group) who joined us for our recent February 27 - March 1, 2026 Guided "Fathering Girls" Father and Daughter Camp at Mill Valley Ranch, in outer S-E Melbourne, VIC.
The Dads have been equipped with understanding the significance of their role, their daughters' true identity, the importance of answering their daughters' core question, the 3A's, their daughters' responses to their 3 intelligence-gathering questions, the importance of a father's affirmation, and that they will always be their daughters' father for as long as they both draw breath.
Each father and daughter now has stronger bonds, healthier relationships, and a deeper understanding of one another.
Mission accomplished!
