As a psychologist, I have regularly discussed the importance of self care with clients, family members...anyone who would listen! (In a totally chill and non-fanatical way of course). And I thought I had my self care routine all buttoned up, for the most part. Sure, occasionally you get a bit slack with it because life and whatnot, but a pretty set formula of what worked for me and how to get it all rolling in my day to day. And then I had a baby. An amazing, beautiful, turn-my-whole-world-upside-down-in-the-best-way baby. As a first time mum, a lot of the things I used to do as part of my self care routine have DRASTICALLY shifted because of time and energy constraints that come with having an amazing little human. I found so many of the things I used to do regularly before were difficult to fit into my day in the way I had imagined I would able to pre-baby. I was loving being a mum (still am, it's hard and I need a permanent IV dedicated to caffeine delivery but it's the best thing ever), but also knew that looking after me had taken a back seat in a major way. So I figured if stripping self care right back to basics was helpful in getting me to after me back on track, maybe it might help others. I'm still hit and miss (particularly with sleep - that one is like trying to hit a target blindfolded in a cyclone), but with this method, I have more hits overall than misses. That's the dream right? Practice makes skilled (rather than perfect, no person or ability can be) and all that. Hope this helps 💐
