🚗💰 Luxury Car Tax Could Be Scrapped – Linked to EU Free Trade Talks - WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Summary:
🌾Australia’s Luxury Car Tax (LCT) is under serious pressure as negotiations ramp up for a Free Trade Agreement with the EU.

🌾Why do we have the LCT?
🔹 The LCT was designed to protect Australia’s car manufacturing industry — but with local production gone, its purpose is being questioned.
🔹 It currently adds 33% tax on luxury vehicles over:
• $80,567 (standard cars)
• $91,387 (fuel-efficient cars)
🔹 From 1 July, the fuel-efficient threshold drops to 3.5L/100km — making more vehicles taxable.

European governments have pushed for its removal for years, as it heavily impacts their exports. DO YOU THINK THEY WILL GET THEIR WAY?

📊 The Albanese government may agree to axe the LCT in exchange for better EU access for Australian agricultural exports.
📊 The LCT still brings in $1.2 billion+ annually — so this would be a major trade-off. Where would we get this money from if we scrap the LCT?

💲💲Some food for thought - stuck between a rock and a hard place?

And it changes again ... China and the US have agreed a 90-day pause to the deepening trade war, with reciprocal tariffs to be lowered by 115%.
The new tariff will be 10% and the 20% IEEPA tariffs will stay in place which in theory equates to a 30% tariff on all Chinese imports excluding those subject to 232.
Both parties reserve the right to raise them again after 90 days or at any time in the process.
It will be interesing now to see the vessel sailings and changes, and rate adjustments, will they rob other trade lanes to service this over the next 90 days at a higher capacity? Will the product demand/manufacturing be there?

An Australian Border Force (ABF) employee and an alleged crime figure have been charged with bribery and drug offences as part of a crack down on insider corruption. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the ABF employee worked as a supervisor, allowing her to search cargo and ABF systems to determine if parcels were flagged for examination.
This was part of an investigation by a new AFP and NSW Police Multi Agency Strike Team (MAST).

Infringement notices issued for unlawful importation of injectables.

Infringement notices issued for unlawful importation of injectables.

We have issued 2 infringement notices totalling $26,640 to Queensland based company Nius Development Pty Ltd for the alleged unlawful import of unapproved cosmetic injectable products.

Injection with unapproved cosmetic injectable products comes with an increased risk of adverse events. These allegedly illegally imported products were not on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), are not approved for supply in Australia, have not been reviewed for safety or quality, and therefore pose an unacceptable risk to consumers.

It is alleged that the company attempted to import medical devices containing prescription only substances, without approval or authority. The cosmetic injectable products contained hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. Equivalent products are readily available in Australia.
