With the Queensland spring school holidays almost here, we know families are thinking ahead about how to fill the weeks with purpose and joy.

Play-based activity doesn't need to be costly or complicated. Nature walks, loose parts play, simple cooking projects, and creative storytelling are all rich experiences for young children.

Our Educators draw on these same principles every day — and they translate beautifully at home too.

R U OK? Day is a national reminder that a simple, genuine question can make a real difference in someone's life.

At Sunkids, we believe that caring for one another is part of who we are — for the children in our centres, and for the people around them.

This September, we're encouraging our Educators, families, and wider community to take a moment. Check in with a colleague. Ask a friend how they're really going. Sit with the answer.

Sunkids Yeronga threw open its doors, and the community showed up. 🧡 Families explored our new rooms and gardens, made art under the shade sails, dug into the sensory table, and finished with gelato on the grass. Thank you for the experiences you set up before the first family walks through the door. For the spaces you prepare with such care. For the intentional teaching that turns a moment of play into a moment of learning. For the safe, nurturing environments where every child knows they belong.

This year's theme says it better than we could:

Today we recognise Early Childhood Educators' Day, and the 450-strong team across our Sunkids centres in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Early childhood education is a skilled profession. It looks like intentional teaching through play. It looks like environments designed so every child feels safe, included and capable.

It looks like people who show up every day to build the foundations children carry with them for life.

This year's theme captures it: "You leave imprints on children that last a lifetime. You shape identity, confidence, belonging and safety. You are the soul of our sector."

This Book Week, the magic of storytelling came to life across our Sunkids centres as children and team members dressed as their favourite characters, shared much-loved stories and celebrated the joy of reading.

Book Week excitement was shared throughout our entire Sunkids community. 💛

From colourful costumes to imaginative learning experiences, it was a special week filled with creativity, laughter and plenty of memorable moments.

📚 Children's Book Week 2026 📚

This August, we celebrate Children's Book Week (22–28 August) — one of our favourite times of year across all Sunkids centres.

This year's theme, Symphony of Stories, is a beautiful reminder that every book a child hears or holds adds to the rich, layered story of their early years.

Our Educators weave shared reading into each day — not just for language and literacy, but for the quiet wonder that a good story brings.

At home, even ten minutes with a favourite book makes a meaningful difference. Ask your child about the pictures. Read the same story twice. Let them turn the pages.

Every child is born curious — asking why, testing ideas, and making sense of the world around them.

National Science Week (15–23 August) celebrates that spirit of discovery, and this year's theme, *Seeds of Science*, speaks to something we hold dear at Sunkids.

Through play-based inquiry, our Educators create environments where children are encouraged to wonder, question and explore — planting the seeds of scientific thinking from the very earliest years.

We're proud to celebrate National Science Week across all 17 of our Queensland centres. 🧡
