Shine Academy of Music

Shine Academy of Music is a vibrant, tight knit community of music learners and mentors.

The school's focus is to provide excellent music education for our community and personal development, both for our clients and for our teachers. Shine Academy of Music offers learning services for:

1) Early learning and primary school students
2) Adult learners learning music for the first time; learning a new instrument or continuing after a long break
3)Advanced students: preparing for University entrance/ high academic performance on their instrument. We believe that every learner’s goals and aspirations are different so we offer personalised learning support on your musical journey. We are committed to providing music instruction that combines creativity and personal expression with proper movement and care of the body. Injury prevention and/or management as well as performance anxiety support is part of our curriculum and an important aspect of the music education we provide. We work together with allied Health professionals to expand music education in this area (injury and management prevention) throughout Australia. Shine Academy’s community events and programs are part of our commitment to expand musical opportunities and experiences outside the studio. Our rural programs for areas in Australia that do not have access to a music program or the same opportunities as the major cities are one of the projects that we are deeply passionate about.

How much can change in two years? As we all know, a lot can! 2020-2022 has been a period of great change and challenge!

We have been reflecting a lot on the past two years especially because reflection is how we adapt, grow and move forward.

Reflecting on the impact of music for us, we can definitely see how music has been invaluable to the process of recovery. People who experienced increased negative emotions due to the pandemic were found to engage with music primarily as a way to regulate depression, fear, and stress, especially via music listening. People who reported more positive emotions overall were found to use music largely as a replacement for social interaction. Not just music listening, but also music making gave them a sense of belonging to a community (World Health Organisation). Making music, moreover, served as a method for self-reflection.

We feel so privileged to continue to provide a service that brings joy, a sense of belonging and achievement to our community.

All it takes is a YES and then Action.

Have you heard of the 5 second rule? Essentially, once you have a good idea or impulse that takes you in the direction you want to go, there are only five seconds for you to make a move before you begin to doubt or second guess yourself.

So the next time you have a great idea pop into your head, do a countdown from 5 and begin moving your body in that direction. You will find yourself being immediately more productive.

Hi everyone, I’m Daniela and I have been a violinist my entire life! It’s one of those things that you don’t realise can be with you for a lifetime when you first begin. As a child, I remember enjoying the challenge of figuring out how to play a particular passage. I learned patience, resilience and most of all a love for beautiful things through music.

Now as a musician and teacher, I especially value the opportunity I have to play music and continue to figure out challenging passages, not just for myself but with my students as well. Of course, there’s nothing like celebrating with a fun music recital at the end of the year which includes helium balloons and other exciting treats!

We hope you and your child are having a well deserved break these school holidays!

As you spend time catching up on everything together, make sure to include time for making music for the love of it!

If you’re not sure whether your child would be interested in starting music lessons, perhaps attend a concert together, buy a toy instrument and watch how they interact with it. Another great option is taking them to a music store to hear and try out an instrument.

"My favourite piece of cello music? That is a really hard question to answer!" Liz says with a laugh and a sigh.

It's always hard to choose one when there are so many good ones! One of Liz's favourite pieces of music for cello is the Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor. It is beautifully poignant, dramatic and yet rich in colour and expression.

Children are awesome, but do you what’s even more awesome? Children dreaming with their eyes open!

Book week is celebrated every year with the aim to teach young children the importance and joy of reading across Australia. There are numerous benefits to reading that we are aware of, but did you know that reading also plays an integral part in composing and playing music.

If music is something that excites your child, then use music as a tool to foster a habit of reading, as it will not only help them academically, but it will also open the doors of imagination and creativity.
