This was never meant to be done alone.

Oh BOY, when I became a freelance teacher, the LONELINESS was a killer. No one else was doing this thing out here (except the wonderful Dan, of course), and my staffroom didn't understand me in my new adventure.... "But, how do you know if a student has learned something if it's not assessed?" Oh, the pain!!!

Teachers are so used to having a community surrounding them. I'm not saying that every aspect of the community is always positive or supportive, but it's always THERE. Someone to reach out to for advice, someone to chat with about ideas, someone to give encouragement, and more so, people to give encouragement to! Hugs and High Fives are a bonus... And that's just the staff room.

Our classroom spaces are where another layer of community exists. A high-energy, borderline chaotic community with a bunch of unreachable goals and unnecessary stressors, but a community at that. And beyond the students are their families (and if you've been teaching as long as me, it's the generations of families that come next!!)

The families will be there for you in the community; that is how this education sector works.
