This week (5 to 9 October) is Queensland Mental Health Week with the theme of ‘Build Community, Build Wellbeing’. This year we celebrate everyday moments of connection that help people feel valued, supported, and like they belong. When we build community, we build wellbeing for everyone. Throughout the week, we’re building community and wellbeing in our school by running activities at lunch times and a Parent/ Carer & Son Breakfast on Friday. BOOK WEEK THROWBACK: WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY 📚
On the Thursday of Book Week, seven teams of students (from Years 7-12) participated in the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ collaborative challenge in our school library – each team successfully drafted, edited, illustrated, and published a book between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM. An impressive achievement!
Additionally, these 52 students collectively raised over $4200.00 in sponsorship for The Kids’ Cancer Project! 🙌
The teams’ publications will be uploaded to a digital library for children in hospital and printed copies are now on display in our library.
Congratulations to every student who participated in this fun (and demanding) event and a big thank you to everyone who sponsored our creative students!

BOOK WEEK THROWBACK: FANTASY MAP WORKSHOP WITH KATHLEEN JENNINGS 🧙📚
On Tuesday of Book Week, a group of creative students were lucky enough to work with internationally published and awarded illustrator Kathleen Jennings in our library for a fantasy map workshop.
During the workshop, students were shown how to follow professional illustration stages, as they interpreted a story, constructed a landscape, filled it with details, and learned techniques for ornamenting it. Students left with a sketched map design (to ink or use as reference) and experience with a variety of techniques.
Kathleen was also kind enough to officially judge our students’ handcrafted bookmark entries during her visit, and Eleanor in Year 11 was awarded first place.

Dance Night 2026 ✨

What a night!

Featuring over 120 dancers across 27 dance items, Dance Night 2026 celebrated, showcased and highlighted the wonderful and robust dance program at Kenmore State High School.

With performances from our Dance Troupes, Curriculum Dance Classes and Student Choreographed pieces, our invited guests, family and friends were treated to an exciting evening full of talent, from high-energy hip hop and nostalgic favourites to emotional and heartfelt contemporary works. Finished off with a fitting and emotional farewell for our Year 12 students.

Congratulations to all of our wonderful staff and students involved in making the evening such a success, and a special thank you to K Media for capturing the night.

A special shout-out to our Dance Troupe Captains, who have exemplified what it means to be a dance student at Kenmore and led by example for all of our budding dancers. Your leadership, dedication and passion for dance have made a wonderful impact on our program.

This week, our Year 10 Geographers had a fantastic few days on the Gold Coast collecting data for their Coastal Management assessment. Students investigated the quality of the Palm Beach and Broadbeach dune systems, and the impact urban development has on these environments. They also got to visit the Tweed Heads Sand Bypassing System for a behind-the-scenes tour and learned how the system helps keep sand moving naturally along the coast. Students were blessed with fantastic weather over both days, and it was great to see them applying their in-class learning to real-world scenarios. Thank you to Ms Smith, Mr Spaull, and Mr Wheeler for all of their hard work behind the scenes in bringing this camp to life.
