Feeling overwhelmed by the whirlwind of emotions little ones experience? You're not alone! ️

This is a common topic in Circle of Security groups, and understanding emotions is crucial for building emotional literacy and regulation in young children. That's where the Feelings Wheel comes in!

This handy tool visually represents a spectrum of emotions, helping children identify and name their feelings in a fun and engaging way.

Here's how the Feelings Wheel can be a game-changer:

🌵Empowers children to express themselves: Words can be tricky, but the Feelings 🌵Wheel provides a visual language for kids to communicate their emotions clearly.
🌵Builds emotional vocabulary: As children explore the wheel, they learn new words to describe their feelings, expanding their emotional intelligence.
🌵Promotes emotional regulation: By identifying and naming their emotions, children gain a sense of control, fostering self-regulation skills.

Ready to harness the power of the Feelings Wheel?

This is now available on the website. https://simplifyingchildhood.com.au/digital-products/p/mmch4ydtwvu6vzi373e3dipgiltupm-ng952

🌵Use it during playtime, story time, or even everyday moments to spark conversations about emotions.
🌵Encourage children to point to the feeling that best describes how they're feeling, and then talk it through together.

Remember, emotional literacy is a journey, not a destination. The Feelings Wheel is a valuable tool to guide children on that journey, helping them navigate the exciting, sometimes confusing world of emotions.

As with everything there is a middle ground and while I love getting in on the play there is also a place for child led play that is completely unstructured and uninterrupted

This is where they can push the limits
Test their theories
Explore possibilities

Do you plan for child led play?

We do, daily they have time where we play together, spend time connecting and then we have time where we all do our own thing.

Planning for it makes it predictable for our children and us too.

So today in their play they set up the playdough and made cupcakes, created paper bracelets for their dolls, built a swinging cubby, plus some game where the dog was a baby

When you you plan for child led play in your day?

Ever wonder how to help your child navigate those big emotions? In Circle of Security groups, we often discuss the Zone of Regulation, a helpful framework for understanding emotional states.

While this is not officially a part of the Circle of Security curriculum, it is a framework I have used both in my own home and classroom to talk with children about their emotions as part of 'being with'.

This framework isn't about avoiding each state but giving language and skills to support you and your child at each stage. And teaches us and our children to observe their bodies, behaviours, and emotions.

interested in learning more about Circle of Security and exploring these concepts? Join us for our in-person group on February 17th and 24th with

In a supportive environment, you'll gain valuable insights into child development, build connections with other parents, and discover tools to navigate your parenting journey with confidence.
