We love the support we get from our partners, all across the country! Thanks to BHP's Nickel West for hosting our students from Brisbane, Gladstone, Moranbah, Mackay, Muswellbrook and Kalgoorlie - they had an enlightening time and enjoyed the challenges you set for our sector's future engineers, scientists and geologists!

Go Team Oresome!

These brilliant young minds were given an insight into our operations in Western Australia as part of the Oresome Minds camp run by the Australian Resources Industry Skills and Education - ARISE initiative, supported by BHP.

Bailey and Sarah from Muswellbrook High School Official have been on the Oresome Minds Camp in Kalgoorlie this week learning about the Nickel refining processes that take place at BHP's Nickel West operations.

Year 10 students; Sarah and Bailey are on an excursion located in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, which involves two BHP Nickel West sites, The Kambalda Concentrator and The Nickel Smelter. We have toured both sites and using problem solving skills to propose solutions to a project provided by the Nickel West Smelter and which will be presented to BHP representatives. Our task involves eradicating the buildup of materails that can be found in the bottom of the furnace. We are working alongside other students from Queensland and Western Australia, and have developed friendships between both male and female students, engaging in group work and other activities such as board games and discussions over meals.

🎤 Following on from our announcement last week, we'd like to introduce you to Mufaro, one of our two ARISE Scholarship Recipients! This scholarship has been made possible by our partners, BHP!

🏫 A 2022 graduate from Muswellbrook High School, Mufaro is the first student from outside of Queensland to be awarded an ARISE scholarship.

⚙️ The study of engineering is a natural progression from his love of maths and physics, and Mufaro is inspired by his father who works in the mining industry.

🎓 We wish Mufaro all the best in his Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Transfer Program) at The University of Newcastle, Australia, where he'll complete the first two years of his degree in Newcastle, before finishing his degree at either UNSW or UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia.
