🚀 What a wonderful week of curiosity, imagination, innovation and discovery to end Term 3! From Monday’s inspiring panel discussion to hands-on activities across the school, our students have been busy creating, exploring and solving real-world problems.
🏆 Our Year 5 students proudly represented us at Brisbane Catholic Education’s 2026 STEM ‘Make a Difference’ Showcase. A huge congratulations to our ‘Finding Balance’ team, who placed second in the Future is STEM category and are now heading to STEM Nationals!
🎨 Creativity was everywhere, with students creating colourful artworks inspired by talented Australian artists, picture books and the natural environment of coral reef ecosystems.
🌟 Students also journeyed through planets, the moon, stars and constellations in the StarLab, before exploring the magical Glow Garden. Can you spot the hidden gnomes? 🔍✨

🌟 STEAM Week is here at St Thomas’! 🌟

We were thrilled to kick off our STEAM Week activities by welcoming five inspiring guests who shared their career journeys and encouraged our students to dream big in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. Some of our students also lead a special panel discussion, asking our guests what inspired them to follow their chosen pathways.

✨ Professor Adam Brumm — Archaeologist, Griffith University, and brother of Joe and Dan Brumm, creators of Bluey
✨ Rachael Walsh — Queensland Ballet Philanthropy Director and Ballet Répétiteur, and St Thomas’ parent
✨ Dr Chrys Pulle — Geriatrician at Princess Alexandra Hospital, and St Thomas’ parent
✨ Nicole Marinucci — Bachelor of Science (Public Health), PhD, and St Thomas’ parent
✨ Jenny Woodward OAM — ABC Weather Presenter

It was such an honour for our students to learn from these talented professionals and discover where a passion for STEAM can lead! 🚀🔬🎨

📚✨ Our students were captivated during a visit from children’s author Rory H. Mather for Book Week as he shared the magic behind creating engaging stories. Working with Rory our students co-constructed a story using the story arc. Exploring “in the box” thinking to make stories relatable and “out of the box” thinking to add the unbelievable, they transformed Rory’s simple drive to St Thomas’ into a wild adventure full of imaginative characters and ideas! The students were highly engaged, creative and excited to learn from a real author. Thank you, , for inspiring our young writers! 🌟✏️📖
