⭐ 150 Years. Generations of Belmont ⭐
I was fortunate to attend Belmont State School in 1963, after previously going to school in Nigeria and England. When my family moved to Belmont, my sister and I joined the school and quickly became part of the local community.
At the time, Mr. Holden was the principal. I still remember him joking that he wasn’t related to the car manufacturer. The school itself was very different then, with the old weatherboard buildings still in use before they were later moved to become a scout hall.
I made close friendships with local kids, many of whom lived nearby. We spent time together outside of school as well, even heading out for picnics in the back of a Morris Minor panel van… no seatbelts in those days!
School life was simple but memorable. We walked to school every day, played cricket and soccer on the top oval, and managed without air conditioning in the classrooms. I also remember a particularly aggressive magpie near the classrooms that we all tried to avoid.
Life has come full circle for me. I now live in my parents’ home, and my grandchildren currently attend Belmont State School. Being able to take them to school almost every day is something I feel incredibly lucky to experience.
Belmont has been part of my life across generations, and it continues to hold a very special place in our family.
