Try these simple conditioning exercises every second day to prepare your body, build strength and help prevent injury.

Calf raises are best done on a step.

The full sequence takes just 4 minutes. For best results, repeat it 2–3 times.

A wise teacher once said to me, “to inspire others, remain a student of what inspires you”. Feeling the need to reassess and refresh my take on this actor training pathway that I’ve been sharing and evolving for more than 30 years now, I went back to the source two years running to see this extraordinary group, the Suzuki Company of Toga, in action. A big investment in time and resources, but my appreciation for this work has deepened exponentially. And now, with fresh inspiration - to take what I’ve learned back into the studio and see where it leads. The challenge as always - how to use this “grammar” but speak in your own artistic language. Continuing the journey that started in 1993 🇯🇵 - and now returning to this theatre mecca in Toga Village for the fifth time. The learning from these master artists continues! And the bonus: another Aussie Lucy Guerin is on the program too.

In 1998, I was working on a show with the fabulous actor Andrew Jans Brown when he suddenly vagued out for a few seconds.

I said, “Are you okay?”

He said, “Yeah, I just had this weird vision that you’ll be teaching Suzuki training in 30 years.”

I didn’t believe it at the time but turns out he was right! 🦶 🦶 To be honest the deeper I go with this material using Suzuki’s work as a spring board, the more fascinating it is. 📷 Simon Woods 2025
