Have you seen our Kindergarten 1 room lately???
They have set up an Airport ✈️ in their room -it is incredible and all created by the children.
I asked Miss Patsy - how come an airport??? She said:

“The inquiry emerged from the children's growing interest in sharing about their home countries, drawing pictures, and bringing photos that represented their families, cultures, and traditions. The arrival of new children from different countries further encouraged conversations about where we come from and the many places around the world that connect us. Children showed curiosity about different countries and began exploring the idea of how an airport can connect people and places across the world.

Children worked together to develop the airport dramatic play environment, sharing ideas about what would be needed and negotiating roles within their play. They explored different jobs found at an airport, expanding their vocabulary. Literacy
was naturally embedded through writing names, creating
passports and boarding passes, reading signs, and using written language for meaningful purposes. Discussions about countries, travel, and different parts of the world also supported children to make connections between their personal experiences and new learning.

Through conversations, drawings, and observations of children's play, we identified a strong interest in travel. Children shared their existing knowledge about airports, including what they had seen, experienced, and believed was needed to make an airport function. This provided opportunities to extend their understanding while building communication, confidence, and vocabulary.

We planned a dramatic learning experience where the children could collaboratively create and role-play their own airport. The environment was designed to support exploration of different airport roles and processes, including passengers, pilots, flight attendants, check-in staff. We also planned opportunities to introduce literacy in meaningful and purposeful ways through creating passports, boarding passes, signs, tickets, and other airport-related print.

The inquiry continues to evolve in response to the children's interests, questions, and experiences. Children have demonstrated increasing confidence in sharing their knowledge, communicating ideas, using new vocabulary. and engaging in collaborative dramatic play. Moving forward, families will be invited to share photos of their children's personal travel experiences, providing further opportunities for children to make connections, share stories 📕, and extend their understanding of airports, travel, and the wider world 🌍 “ AMAZING 🤩.

Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the many ways we care for children each day. From following safe sleep practices and using approved cots, to completing visual checks every 5 minutes, our educators take every step to help children rest safely and comfortably.

We also work closely with families to understand each child's individual sleep routine, because feeling safe, settled and well-rested helps children learn, grow and thrive.

💜 Safe sleep is everyone's responsibility, and it's always a priority.

🌿💛 We’re incredibly proud to be nominated for a 2026 Goodies Award! 💛🌿
Goodstart Eight Mile Plains has been recognised for our Reconciliation journey — a journey that is about so much more than a document or a set of actions. It is about learning, listening, living, reflecting and creating meaningful opportunities for our children, families and educators to develop a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and perspectives.
Our Reconciliation journey has encouraged us to look closely at our everyday practices, celebrate First Nations culture and embed meaningful learning throughout our curriculum and our centre environment.
We are incredibly proud of the passion and commitment our educators have shown along the way, and especially proud of the conversations, learning experiences and connections we are creating for our children.
Being nominated for a 2026 Goodies Award is a wonderful recognition of the work our whole centre community has contributed to this journey. 🌿

This is our journey — and we know there is always more to learn, more to listen to and more to do. 💛

Last week Miss Amanda and Miss Brenda attended the Our Nangara Community of Practice Yarns for Jajumms
Marlon Riley was a guest speaker he spoke about practical and meaningful ways to embed First Nations perspectives into everyday practice. They participated in a smoking ceremony, Traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games, music and movement, while learning more about cultural protocols and culturally safe practices. They came away with new ideas and experiences to share with the team and children, to continue on with our reconciliation journey
