From 1 October 2026, card payment surcharges are being removed across Australia πŸ’³
That means no more extra surcharge when using eligible card payment methods for things like:
- 🍽️ Dining out and takeaway
- πŸ›οΈ Shopping and everyday purchases
- πŸŽ“ Paying tuition fees by credit/debit card
- πŸ›‚ Paying visa application fees by card
- 🧾 Other eligible card payments
The actual cost of the item, tuition fee or visa application fee still applies β€” you’re simply no longer paying the extra card surcharge on top.
The change applies to eftpos, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay from 1 October 2026, with PayPal from 5 October 2026.
One less extra fee to worry about when paying by card in Australia.

Australia’s visa rules are changing πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

A new round of migration reforms has been announced, with changes affecting international students, graduates, skilled migrants, visitors and working holiday makers.

From tighter rules around student visa progression and family members, to changes to skilled migration priorities and the Working Holiday Visa program β€” Australia’s migration system is continuing to shift.

⚠️ Important: Not all changes are in effect yet. The reforms will be progressively rolled out, with further details on implementation dates, eligibility and exemptions still to come.

We’ll continue to monitor official updates and share more details as they become available.
