The Djara Studio has been busy creating their very own "real-life habitat"! 🐞🦜🌳

From bugs and birds to trees and leaves, the children are constantly sharing new ideas, building on their learning, and revisiting their creations each day. It has been wonderful to watch their curiosity, creativity, and collaboration bring this ever-evolving habitat to life. 🌿✨

The Thinking Work We Don't Always See in Early Childhood Education - Mother Duck Child Care 18/08/2026

When people think about early childhood education, they often picture play.

Building towers.
Painting.
Reading stories.
Singing songs.
Exploring outdoors.

Play is certainly at the heart of what we do.

But behind every meaningful learning experience sits something that is far less visible.

Karen Prestedge highlights the importance of recognising the invisible work that early childhood educators do to help our children thrive whilst in their care.

The Emotional Work We Don’t Always See in Early Childhood Education - Mother Duck Child Care 11/08/2026

There is a quiet emotional load that exists within early childhood education.

Not the loud or dramatic kind people often imagine, but the kind that can become so familiar within the profession that educators simply learn to carry it as part of their everyday work.

It is the constant stimulation.
The ongoing movement, conversations, questions, routines, and responsibilities that fill each day.
The responsibility of remaining emotionally available, calm, patient, nurturing, observant, and responsive for children throughout the day.

Katy Bloodworth shares a deeper insight as we acknowledge the extraordinary emotional commitment that educators bring to their work each day.

The Senior Studio children have been busy creating their very own bunting, with every decision guided by their ideas, conversations and theories, all thoughtfully documented throughout their project journal.
As the children selected the colours of yarn, one key idea continued to emerge: "A colour from everyone's room." This simple yet powerful statement reflects their growing understanding of inclusion, belonging and ensuring everyone is represented. It is a beautiful reminder that even our youngest citizens recognise the importance of welcoming and caring for those around them.
Soon, the first piece of bunting will be proudly displayed in the Tudleba Café alongside our Kindergarten creations. The children have also shared their hope that bunting will hang along the Senior Studio verandah so "all the babies can see it" because, as they explained, "it will feel like a party!"
We can't wait to see this collaborative project bring colour, joy and a sense of belonging to our community. 💛
