Today we celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. We sang songs and told stories of the land, waterways and animals. In the morning, our Pavilion transformed into a river as we discussed Sea Tucker then in the afternoon, Educator Helen taught us how to weave fish using palm leaves. We used a video from Marion Healy in Mackay QLD to help us.
Through the playground and patch, we listened to a playlist filled with First Nations artists and down on the tennis court, we participated in Buroinjin - a ball game played by the Kabi Kabi people of South QLD.

Children thrive when they are given the freedom to imagine, build, test and transform their ideas with open ended resources, and our Play Crates from The Outsiders Play Advocates have certainly been a welcome addition to our loose parts collection. Here’s a sneaky peak at our Educators too who spent an afternoon huddle letting their creativity flow. When adults get stuck in so that they can better understand the flow of play, they can help create environments where curiosity feels safe and celebrated. Our next challenge - how many crates can we stack on top of each other? 🤔😁
