When we talk about belonging in schools, we often treat it like a feeling.
Something intangible.
Something difficult to measure.
But after working with thousands of young people in leadership and personal development sessions, I’ve come to see belonging as something far more practical.
Belonging is not built through posters, slogans, or assemblies.
It is built through daily signals.
Small moments where students quietly ask themselves:
• Is my voice welcome here?
• Is it safe to try?
• Will someone notice if I contribute?
• Do the adults in this space actually see me?
Young people are constantly reading the environment.
Not just the rules.
Not just the curriculum.
But the unspoken cues.
Who gets listened to.
Who gets encouraged.
Who gets overlooked.
And when those signals consistently say “you matter here”, something powerful happens.
Students don’t just comply.
They engage.
They step forward.
They take risks.
They lead.
Because belonging isn’t just a wellbeing outcome.
It is the foundation of engagement, confidence, and leadership.
The challenge for schools isn’t simply asking “Do students belong?”
The deeper question is:
What are the daily experiences we are creating that make belonging feel real?
When belonging is genuine, motivation doesn’t need to be forced.
It emerges naturally.

She stood in front of the mirror, quiet but powerful.
“I’m more than what I see,” she whispered.
This was Chloe — a young person I met at our Strive Lane Identity Station.
She took a deep breath.
Wrote one word on a sticky note.
Growth.
She added:
“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.”
Then she stuck it on the mirror — her reflection staring back, her future self watching closely.
She told me, “This is the value I’ll live by, no matter where life takes me. No one can take this from me.”
Watching her, I was reminded why I started Strive Lane — to help young people anchor their lives to values, not circumstances.
Because sometimes, the most powerful transformations don’t happen in classrooms or workshops…
They happen in front of a mirror — when someone dares to see not just who they are, but who they’re becoming.
What’s one value you’ll never compromise on — no matter what life throws your way?

Yesterday reminded me exactly why I started Strive Lane.
At the Create Foundation’s Transition to Adulthood Launch at Sea World, we invited young people to look into a mirror — not to see their reflection, but to see their potential.
To visualise who they’re becoming. 💭
To recognise the invisible imprints — those experiences, values, and lessons that quietly shape who we are and who we’re called to be.
That’s what Strive Lane is all about.
Building mental fitness, emotional and social intelligence, and resilience through experiential learning — helping young people forge their path and make their mark.
The energy in the space was real!
Real conversations. Raw moments. Young people realising their worth and potential — that’s the impact we live for.
Big love to for leading the way in empowering young people to transition into adulthood with strength and hope. Special shout out to our sponsor for hooking young people up with $100 gift vouchers in support of our mission and young people in care.
BIG LOVE ❤️🙌

🎯 Helping Young People Forge Their Path
Every year, thousands of young people step into adulthood feeling uncertain, anxious, and unseen.
For some, the transition feels like a cliff — one day they’re supported, the next they’re expected to know how to “adult” without a safety net.
That’s why I’m beyond excited to share that Strive Lane will have an interactive stall at this year’s Transition to Adulthood (T2A) Launch Event run by the incredible CREATE Foundation — hosted at Sea World, Gold Coast.
Our space will invite young people to pause, reflect, and take part in a hands-on experience focused on identity, agency, and emotional intelligence — because becoming an adult isn’t about age; it’s about learning to lead yourself first.
Strive Lane exists to help young people develop mental fitness, self-leadership, and resilience — empowering them to step confidently into the next chapter of their story.
If you’re part of an organisation like Brisbane Youth Service, Wesley Mission Queensland, or any service passionate about strengthening the bridge between youth care and independence — let’s connect. There’s so much we can do together to ensure no young person has to navigate adulthood alone.
🛠️ Let’s empower them to forge their path and make their mark.

You don’t need to arrive. You need to become.
We live in a world obsessed with milestones, titles, and checklists.
But real growth? Real impact? It’s not found in the destination.
It’s found in the journey.
In the struggle.
In the silent battles no one claps for.
Stop waiting to “arrive.”
Start becoming who you were made to be.
“WHAT IF YOU STRIVE BUT NEVER ARRIVE?” — Part 1
🔥 The first two minutes of Joe Mikaele Ah-Kuoi’s powerful keynote just dropped — and it’s the gut-check we all need.
Too many of us are chasing a version of success that’s always just one step away.
And in that chase, we start to question:
👉 Am I falling short?
👉 Is all this effort even worth it?
👉 Will I ever ARRIVE?
Joe gets real about what it feels like to strive for something you might never fully grasp — and why that doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
In fact, it might mean you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
🛤️ Striving is not failure. It’s the becoming.
The stretch.
The wrestle.
The growth.
🎬 Watch the first 2 minutes now — and reflect:
What are you chasing, and what is it shaping in you?
This is just the beginning.
More to come in the next few days.
Stay locked in. 💥

🚧 WHAT IF YOU STRIVE BUT NEVER ARRIVE? 🛤️
Have you ever asked yourself… “What’s the point of trying so hard if I never seem to get there?”
You hustle. You grind. You rise early. You stay late.
But the finish line keeps moving.
Success feels just out of reach.
You start to wonder… is all this striving even worth it?
Here’s the truth:
Striving is the destination.
Every setback, every lesson, every moment of growth — that is arrival.
You don’t need a trophy, title, or “perfect” moment to validate your journey.
Because what if your impact isn’t in what you achieve…
…but in who you become and who you lift along the way?
At Strive Lane, we believe that striving — even when you feel like you’re never arriving — is the real mark of leadership.
Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing a powerful short series of video snippets from Strive Lane founder Joe Mikaele Ah-Kuoi’s latest keynote:
🎤 “What If You Strive But Never Arrive?”
These clips will hit deep.
They’ll challenge you.
And they’ll remind you that your journey isn’t meaningless — it’s making you.
📍Stay tuned.

What an incredible experience collaborating with the Wests Bulldogs Rugby for our Young Leaders’ Camp!
This camp was all about teaching young people how to lead with confidence, resilience, and strong communication skills. Watching them step up and develop their emotional and social intelligence has reaffirmed why this work is so important to us.
In today’s world, leadership isn’t always addressed in school or sports—unless it's nurtured at home, many young people miss the opportunity to develop these essential skills."Leadership is not about a title or position, it’s about action and example." That’s why we’re passionate about helping young leaders tap into the power that’s already within them.
Emotional and social intelligence are at the heart of leadership—qualities the world desperately needs more of. "The true mark of a leader is not just how they lead others, but how they lead themselves." Through hands-on challenges and teamwork, we empowered this group to take control of their own leadership journey.
Leadership is a power within us all, and we’re here to help unlock that potential early. Every young person has the capacity to lead, and together we’re building a generation of confident, resilient, and emotionally intelligent leaders ready to take on the world.
"The leaders of tomorrow are shaped by the lessons they learn today."
At Strive Lane, we will keep empowering the next generation to rise up and lead!
We're about to kick off our very first School Holiday Program in collaboration with Wests Bulldogs Rugby, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.
