🎨 Art in 3D!

This week, our children have been exploring mark making in a whole new dimension! Our educators created a large-scale 3D art installation using recycled and natural materials – cardboard, paper plates, pinecones, corks, cup holders, old CDs and more – transforming everyday objects into a canvas full of texture, angles and possibility.

Painting on a vertical, textured surface offers children something very different to paper on a table. They're strengthening their shoulders, arms and hands (all that wonderful gross and fine motor work that supports later writing!), problem-solving as their brushes meet bumpy, curved and hollow surfaces, and making creative choices about where their marks belong in a shared space.

We also love that this experience celebrates sustainability – showing children that beautiful things can be created from materials that might otherwise be thrown away. ♻️

The collaboration, concentration and conversation happening around this installation has been just beautiful to watch. This is process art at its finest – it's not about the finished product, but the thinking, exploring and creating along the way. 💛

💛 Better late than never — we were too busy soaking up the moment yesterday to hit "post"!

Yesterday we paused to celebrate our incredible educators — the heart of Cottage Grove and the reason our centre truly feels like a home away from home for every child and family.

In true Cottage Grove style, we marked the day with:

🍽️ A family-style lunch, cooked and served with love by one of our very own owners
🎁 A special goodie bag of treats for every educator
💆 Massages, because our team deserves to be looked after too
💌 And, most meaningful of all — handwritten letters from our centre leadership team, plus beautiful notes from our families

To every educator at Cottage Grove: thank you for your patience, your warmth, and the countless small moments that make such a big difference. We see you, we appreciate you, and we're so lucky to have you.

2 years of Miss Dara 🎉

This week we celebrated Miss Dara's 2-year anniversary at Cottage Grove.

If you have a little one in Senior Toddlers, you'll know Dara as our sensory play queen – the one behind the trays of paint and lavender, the rosemary-scented canvases, and a constant stream of experiences that invite children to touch, smell, squish and wonder. She's a quieter presence, often working away in the background, but the thoughtfulness in everything she sets up speaks loudly. It's no surprise she was the very first recipient of our Pedagogy Award earlier this year.

Dara is also officially a chicken mama – she took four of our baby chicks home earlier in the year, and they've just laid their very first eggs. 🥚🐔 A full-circle Cottage Grove moment if ever there was one!

The families who've had Dara in their corner already know how lucky we are.

Congratulations, Dara – here's to many more years of muddy hands, curious minds and fresh eggs.

Let's talk about what childcare actually costs.

Between CCS, Free Kindy and the new 3 Day Guarantee, working it out can honestly feel like a second job — and we hear the confusion from families on almost every tour. Usually followed by "sorry, this is probably a silly question." It's not. It's the question.

So here's the plain-English version (swipe through).

And if your situation doesn't fit neatly into seven slides — most don't — just ask. We sit down with families and walk through it properly, with real numbers, before you enrol. No jargon, no pressure. That's what we're here for.

Some news from our kitchen 🥕

We've just finished a full menu review with Nutrition Australia, to make sure the meals we serve are genuinely meeting the dietary needs of every child in our care — from our littlest eaters through to kindy. Over the next few weeks we'll share what the review looked at, what's changed, and what's on the plate.

🌱 Bush kindy day 🌱
Muddy boots, big sticks, and some very serious conversations about ants. There's something about watching the children out here — they slow down, they notice things, they take safe risks and surprise themselves. Half the group didn't want to leave. Honestly, neither did we.

Meet Gabi 💛 Three years in our Pre-Kindy room, and we're still not sure who has more energy — her or the children.

Gabi grew up in Brazil, speaks Portuguese with a few of our families (which we love), and has never once been caught taking a normal photo. Evidence attached.
Certified dog person too — ask her about her Frenchie back home in Brazil next time you're in. Fair warning: there will be photos.

We reckon the people make the place, so we'll be introducing more of the team over the coming weeks.
