Unlocking Language Power
During my experience as a teacher, I have seen so many people, both young and older, struggling with written and/or spoken communication even though they have been immersed in it – learning it, using it, listening to it, and reading it – for years.
Stored in an incredible brain, each of us has an enormous capacity to communicate in our native language; however, this potential is so often lost with no practical framework on which to attach our language potential.
As a primary and middle school teacher in both state and private schools over the past 36 years, I too have been disappointed with the outcome of many language-learning programs that, instead of empowering the use of language, have greatly reduced and even temporarily extinguished language potential and clouded the joy of using it. Hence, over the years, I have developed, tested and refined a better way.
If you would like to find out more about how to unlock and ignite language potential, please give me a call or send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Only the best will do!
Teachers, tutors, coaches, and the many other supporters of a child’s education, all have wonderful talents to engage children and young people in their learning journey. But it is the family, the child’s most important supporters, who ensure that absolutely everything good goes to their child. Certainly, the standards of any contributor to a child’s life should be nothing short of excellent.
What should the role of an excellent tutor look like?
• Respect the parents and their child
• Build rapport
• Support the child’s educational needs with exceptional expertise, continuous professionalism, and integrity
• Employ comprehensive knowledge and practical, dynamic strategies that truly enhance learning
• Use clear, open communication with the parents and their child concerning all work completed in each lesson, and the work to be done in the next lesson
• Model a positive, pro-active attitude, and a positive self-image in all things
• Listen to and support parents’ ideas and goals for their child
• Listen to and support the child’s ideas, interests, goals and aspirations
• Respect the parents’ and the child’s perspective
• Inquire of and support their current school subjects, programs, and goals
• Find authentic evidence of student’s current strengths on which to build further skills
• Carefully plan together with the child worthwhile short-term and long-term goals
• Promote strategies that strengthen how to learn well
• Encourage with a positive vision for the way ahead
• Utilize the child’s most effective learning methods
• Take into account the child’s extra-curricular activities with local clubs and community groups and complement the work of these teachers, coaches, community leaders and organizers
• Model at all times the joy and the benefits of learning
• Continually celebrate the many facets of learning success and excellence
• Embrace diversity
• Maintain the security and confidentiality of all information related to the child and the child’s family
