The “Foresight, Innovation and Leadership Program” (FLIP) for the next generation of South African leaders addresses some of the most urgent challenges facing South Africa. The program aims to fill the critical management skills gap undermining South Africa’s economy by introducing proven methods in long-range problem-solving, foresight skills and leadership developed at Stanford University. ted at business and government leaders, the program is designed to help them tackle strategic challenges in innovation and become more effective in long-term planning and leadership. The last program was run in Pretoria at the National School of Government in December, 2016. The methodology developed at Stanford University provided the backbone of the program. The comprehensive methodology of foresight and innovation has been designed to help all types of organisations, government departments and companies to develop better strategies and more effective leadership to implement them. The program builds upon 50 years of Stanford research and teaching of design thinking methodologies. Developed at the behest of industry, the program has been taken into the labs, offices, and research centers of organizations worldwide. American University's School of Public Affairs (SPA) is top-ranked by US News and World Report, offering programs to build and enhance careers in public service. The school offers a unique pairing of access to Washington, DC with world-renowned faculty and transformational research, driving progress in policy, politics and public administration. SPA is ranked third the US and first in the DC area for public affairs research impact, and is the only school home to three Gaus Award recipients for a lifetime of exemplary contribution to political science and public administration. Stanford University is one of the world’s leading universities, educating global leaders and playing a key role in the rise of Silicon Valley, which is home to major technology companies such as Apple, Adobe, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Intel, Cisco and HP.
