Our theme this term is Care for One Another and this week a simple moment in the Inky reminded us that caring often starts with noticing.

Among all the excitement of Bike Week, one of our Grade RR boys overheard a friend saying that he didn’t have a bicycle. Concerned that his friend might miss out, he went home and told his mom about it. He had two bikes, so he asked if he could bring his extra one to school to share.

And so, this morning, he arrived at school with two bikes - his own, an extra one to share because he didn’t want someone else to miss out.

𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝟮𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴
Some friendships never fade - they simply pick up where they left off.

Recently, Cordwalles Old Boy Sibusiso Shelembe (Baines, Class of 2000) travelled to the United States carrying something very special in his luggage: a Cordwalles Old Boys’ cap for his lifelong friend and fellow Old Boy, Dr Rhorie “Koos Kombuis” Kerr (Baines, Class of 2000).

Their story began long before they became Cordwalles boys. The pair first met at Sunnylea Pre-Primary before joining Mrs Usher’s Class 0 in 1993. From there, they journeyed through every year at Cordwalles together, graduating as part of the memorable Millennium Leavers of 2000. In 2001, they both headed to Michaelhouse before the Kerr family emigrated to the United States later that year.

Twenty-five years after Rhorie’s departure from South Africa, the two friends were finally reunited in person.

The presentation of the Old Boys’ cap was more than a gift - it was a reminder that no matter where life takes our Old Boys, they remain part of the Cordwalles brotherhood. Across continents and decades, the bonds formed in the classrooms and on the sports fields of Cordwalles continue to endure.

Thank you, Sibs, for proudly flying the Cordwalles flag overseas and helping keep the Old Boys’ connections alive.

In celebration of Women’s Day, the ladies on our staff were treated to a special morning together.

Although the weather had other plans for a walk through the Cordies forest, a delicious morning tea, a crackling fire and good company at the Pennington Pavilion made for the perfect alternative. It was an opportunity to slow down, enjoy one another’s company and take a moment to connect away from the busyness of the school day.

Thank you to the gentlemen of Cordwalles, who quietly stepped in to keep the school running, giving our women staff the opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved time together.

Today, as we celebrate Women’s Day, we wish all the women in our Cordies community a wonderful Women’s Day. We look around our own school with immense gratitude for the women on our staff who walk alongside our Cordies boys each and every day.

We know that raising boys takes strong role models. Every day, the women on our staff help shape young lives through their kindness, wisdom, patience and care.

From 07h20 tomorrow morning, we’ve planned a special morning in our Cordwalles Forest for the incredible women on our staff, a chance to step away from the busyness, enjoy good company and take time to breathe, reflect and recharge.

While they do, the gentlemen on our staff will be taking care of the morning duties back at school.
It’s a small way of saying thank you to the remarkable women who give so much to our Cordies boys every single day.

Our Inky, Grade 1 and 2 boys enjoyed a morning of athletics with a Fun Sports Day.

The morning included a variety of races that challenged the boys' speed, agility and coordination. From the first race to the last, every boy gave his best, encouraged his teammates and enjoyed every moment on the field.

The boys weren't the only ones eager to cross the finish line first. The parents' race proved that competitive spirit runs in the family. Cheered on by the boys, it was the perfect way to round off a wonderful morning of sport.

Thank you to our teachers for planning such an engaging programme, our grounds staff for preparing the field and our kitchen team for the delicious tea.

We would also like to thank Msunduzi Build It for the loan of the wheelbarrows, which added an extra element of fun to the parents' race.

If you've ever wondered what happens in the Design & Technology classroom during lunch, more often than not, it's boys choosing to spend their break working on projects of their own.

These two spent their break adding the finishing touches on their golf putters they'd designed themselves. What started as an idea became a process of testing and refining, using square steel tubing, wood, PVC pipe and a rope grip to bring their ideas to life. ⛳️

A cold winter’s morning, four Houses ready to compete.

From the first sprint to the final relay, the track was alive with House spirit. Hurdles were cleared, personal bests were celebrated and every finish line was met with loud cheers from the sidelines. Throughout the morning, boys proudly represented their Houses and encouraged one another every step of the way.
Of course, no Inter-House Athletics Day would be complete without the dads taking on the Boarder Masters in the annual tug-of-war. Friendly? Of course. Competitive? Absolutely. It was a fitting end to a great morning of athletics.
