uMLAZI DISTRICT WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION 2026

Today, 21 August 2026 Northlands Primary School, north of Durban, came alive with women from uMlazi District coming together to celebrate under the theme *Leading with purpose, Inspiring change shaping the future*.

Welcoming dazzling uMlazi district woman, the District Director, Ms Busi Mahlambi, "today we decided to pause and celebrate the phenomenal women of the district. We celebrate and honor your contribution to the department," said Ms Mahlambi.

Generous sponsors and education partners all echoed sentiments of support to the women and words of encouragement. Various doctors emphasized the importance of regular health checks, prevention of ailments rather than treatment.

Ms Zanele Sibisi-Shabala, Project Manager from VVOB, a stakeholder working collaboratively with the department to implement programmes to improve learner outcomes and ensure quality education is delivered to the learners of KwaZulu-Natal.

"To lead with purpose means understanding that education is not merely an administrative routine or curriculum delivery, it is a profound act of nation building. When a woman leads with purpose, she brings empathy combined with structural discipline. When she inspires change, she transforms bureaucratic challenges into actionable solutions. When she shapes the future, she ensures that no child or school is left behind," remarked Ms Sibisi-Shabalala.

Women of uMlazi have committed to fixing each other's crown and creating opportunities for young women to grow. There is enough room for all women of uMlazi to shine.

Day 3: 2026 Provincial National Symbols Education Quiz and Drama Championship

The Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, successfully concluded the 2026 Provincial National Symbols Education Quiz and Drama Championship at Stable Theatre in Durban on 21 August 2026.

The final day focused on secondary schools from across the province. Learners demonstrated exceptional talent, creativity and knowledge as they competed on stage in both the quiz and drama categories.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Mr SP Buthelezi, Chief Education Specialist in the Co-Curricular Support Services Directorate, described learners as the “gold of Africa”. He also made a heartfelt appeal to parents and the broader community to protect and support learners, emphasising that they are the future of the country.

Both departments expressed their sincere appreciation to all educators, learners, school principals, eThekwini Metro and everyone who contributed to making this year’s competition a success.

CELEBRATING A REMARKABLE MILESTONE: 65 YEARS OF LIFE AND 43 YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education proudly celebrated a remarkable milestone in honour of Mr Patric Bongani Majozi, who marks 65 years of life and an extraordinary 43 years of dedicated service in the public sector.

The heartfelt celebration, held on 21 August 2026 at Umkhondeni, 110 CB Downs Road, brought together management, colleagues, family, support staff and stakeholders to pay tribute to a man whose professional contribution and personal character have left an indelible mark on the Department.

Mr Majozi was described by colleagues as a dedicated and committed public servant who respected both his work and the people around him. The support staff, including security personnel and cleaners, affectionately described him as a father and a giver, recognising the care, humility and support he extended to everyone.

Colleagues from the Resource Planning Directorate reflected on his immense contribution to the Directorate and the Department as a whole. Tributes were also shared by colleagues from other Directorates, including Ms Lindelwa Sithole, Director for Infrastructure Planning; Mr Richard Ngema, Deputy Director for Early Childhood Development; and Ms Nolundi Keti, Director for Infrastructure Delivery. Their messages reflected a common appreciation for the calibre of person and colleague Mr Majozi has been throughout his years of service.

The Chief Director for Infrastructure Planning, Mr Sibusiso Mhlongo, gave glory to God for the grace bestowed upon Mr Majozi's life, particularly for reaching retirement in good health, remaining active and energetic. He described Mr Majozi as a highly educated and accomplished professional who obtained his first degree in 1983 and continued to further his studies thereafter.

Mr Mhlongo also spoke of the kind heart that Mr Majozi carried and acknowledged his significant contribution towards maintaining the good name of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education. In particular, he recognised Mr Majozi's important role in ensuring the proper management of Norms and Standards across the province.

In his moving vote of thanks, Mr Majozi expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone for the humbling love and support they had shown him throughout more than four decades of service in government. He acknowledged that his journey and achievements had not been accomplished alone, but were made possible through the unwavering support of his family, management and colleagues.

Reflecting on his 43 years of public service, Mr Majozi shared the many lessons he had learned along the way. He reminded everyone that positions are not permanent and that institutions become stronger when people place those they serve above themselves.

He reflected on having experienced pain, participation and progress, all of which contributed to shaping his journey. He extended his appreciation to the Deputy Director-General in absentia, his family, management, colleagues, administrative and support staff, partners and stakeholders. He also expressed appreciation to those who challenged his decisions, acknowledging that challenges and differing views contribute to growth.

Quoting Matthew 20:26, Mr Majozi said:

“Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.”

In sharing a final message with fellow public servants, Mr Majozi encouraged everyone to be fully present, manage public resources as though they were their own, and remain committed to delivering results for the people they serve.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 Said Mr Majozi.

As the Department celebrates Mr Patric Bongani Majozi's remarkable life and legacy of service, we salute a distinguished public servant whose dedication, humility, professionalism and commitment to service will continue to inspire many.

Congratulations, MQAMU on 65 years of life and 43 years of exceptional public service. Your legacy is appreciated, your contribution is recognised, and your service will not be forgotten.

Amajuba District Women’s Day Celebration

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education’s Amajuba District in collaboration with Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted a Women’s Day celebration to honour and recognise the invaluable contribution of women in education and society., focusing on physical and mental health of all women.

The event brought together education officials, educators and stakeholders to celebrate women’s achievements, resilience and leadership, while also highlighting the importance of empowering women and creating opportunities for their continued growth and development.

Programme Director, Ms Khetiwe Nyathikazi, Chief Education Specialist, GET welcomed all present.

District Director Mr Themi Nzama joined the celebrations and acknowledged the significant role played by women in strengthening the education sector. The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in advancing women’s rights and to encourage continued support for women and girls.

The celebration reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where women are empowered to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the development of education and society.

Mr Nzama expressed appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate Women’s Month and acknowledged MANCO and all participants for their contribution. The celebration highlighted women’s strength, resilience, knowledge, skills and valuable contributions to schools and communities.
Emphasis was placed on creating safe, respectful environments free from gender-based violence, with both men and women sharing responsibility for promoting dignity and safety. The speaker also encouraged the empowerment of young girls through confidence, open communication and embracing diversity.

Mr Nzama concluded by thanking everyone for making the celebration a meaningful and inspiring occasion.

Stakeholder, Bay Port provided valuable information regarding Financial Literacy and financial wellness.

The importance of the day is to focus on physical and mental health. Ladies participated in team building activities organized by Planet Fittness and Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
