Our Year 2 boys spent the term exploring, questioning and discovering as they learnt all about dinosaurs! Each boy chose a dinosaur to research and created a project showcasing their creativity and research skills. They proudly shared their projects and discoveries with one another, showing just how much they had learnt along the way. 🦖 💛

𝐒𝐎, 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓?

It's the laughter. The muddy hands. The heart. The stories. The questions. The friendships. The endless “why?” But behind those moments is something more. Purpose.

Cambridge Early Years brings together purposeful play, intentional teaching and whole-child development. Behind the play is research-based learning – turning every experience into something purposeful.

And around it all is something bigger: a Christian foundation, a sense of belonging, a brotherhood and a journey that can grow with each child.

Because we don't believe children need to stop being children in order to learn.
We believe their childhood is where the learning begins.

Our Prep Tennis Championships took place during the last week of term, with a fantastic number of boys signing up and eager to be part of the action.

It was particularly exciting to welcome our U11 players into the Opens section this year, providing them with a new challenge which they embraced and relished. The competition produced some excellent tennis and a number of closely contested matches. Congratulations to Ruan Fourie, who was crowned the 2026 Prep Tennis Champion! Congratulations also to Josh le Roux who finished in second place, and to Sam Merrick who placed third.

Well done to every boy who took part in the Championships and contributed to another enjoyable tennis season. A big thank you must also go to our boys, parents and staff for their continued commitment, enthusiasm and support throughout the season. – Mr Matthew Coombes (Head of Prep Sport)

Cricket season is in full swing.

Our First XI have started their Michaelmas Week campaign at home, producing an excellent result against St John’s College.

Up in Pretoria, our U15s played some great cricket against St Stithians, while our U14s stole the show with a fantastic result against Wynberg on the opening day of their festival.

A brilliant start across the age groups and a great reflection of the hard work, commitment and passion of our cricketers.

Well done to all our boys and coaches. We wish all our teams the very best for the remainder of their respective cricket weeks!

Our Junior Primary boys celebrated Heritage Day a little early through learning, participation and plenty of fun! 🇿🇦

They enjoyed an engaging puppet show while discovering more about South Africa’s incredible, diverse wildlife. The boys were reminded that our heritage is something to be proud of and protect, and that they are the responsible citizens of the future.

A wonderful celebration of our country, our wildlife and the role we all play in caring for our beautiful South Africa.

Happy Heritage Day from St Charles College! 💙🇿🇦

For 151 years, boys have walked through our gates and found a home. Today we celebrate all the things that make our boys proudly South African, and wonderfully unique - each one a reflection of the rich and diverse country we get to call our own.

Wishing our boys, families and staff a heritage-filled day!

Our St Charles College Music Department embarked on a tour of Ch*****ne Valley in the Drakensberg. It was a resounding success, thoroughly enjoyed by the boys and audiences alike, with four performances taking place over the weekend. This was a ground-breaking tour for the College, being the first multi-group music tour in the history of the St Charles College Music Department. The tour featured the Chamber Choir, Orchestra and Senior Band, as well as several soloists.

The tour began on Friday evening with a performance at Ch*****ne Sports Resort, where all three ensembles and the soloists performed in the restaurant during dinner. Saturday brought a highlight: the Chamber Choir joined the Drakensberg Boys Choir for a special morning performance, before all ensembles returned to the stage that evening at the Drakensberg Sun. The tour closed Sunday at Springfield Christian Fellowship in Winterton, where the Chamber Choir and Orchestra performed sacred works for the congregation, including "O God Beyond All Praising" and "Living Hope."

A truly special weekend for our boys. 🎶

Our Year 1 boys had a wonderful day exploring the beauty of Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve. After enjoying a picnic under the pine trees, we made our way down into the valley, where the boys had the opportunity to explore the river – bringing our “In the Pond” theme to life in a hands-on way. The boys were fascinated by the little creatures they discovered in and around the water, eagerly investigating and sharing their findings with one another.

Our visit was a reminder of the value of spending time in nature. It provided the boys with opportunities to slow down and wonder – all while developing their natural sense of curiosity. Sometimes the best learning happens when we step outside the classroom and simply give children the freedom to discover the world around them. – Mrs Meg Hutton

𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃.

The early years aren't only about learning letters and numbers. They're about learning to share. To communicate. To solve a problem. To try again. To make a friend. To ask “why?” To believe, “I can do this.”

Cambridge Early Years supports the development of the whole child – nurturing communication, creativity, physical development, confidence, social and emotional skills alongside early literacy and mathematics. Because we aren't simply preparing boys for their next classroom. We're helping them become confident, capable learners.
