As we come to the final day of a never-to-be-forgotten year, we look forward with hope and anticipation to new things for the KLI in our new premises: St Charles College, Harwin Road, PMBURG. Our work with students learning languages will continue as we, like the phoenix, rise from the ashes of 2020 into the new life of 2021

Our final Intermediate Zulu class took place last night, via Zoom. Well done to each member of the class who adjusted to online learning, after starting with contact classes back in early March. Thanks to all for persevering. Our special gratitude goes to Mary Bloem for her flexibility and adaptability. Where there is a will, there is a way!

It may not feel like it, but spring has officially arrived and a new season has begun for KLI too! We are closing our offices at 33 Alan Paton Avenue and are 'going virtual'. This means we will keep working remotely for now, as we continue to ride the Covid-19 wave and will hire rooms for teaching when needed. It's time for Zoom lessons! We have to accept that the world has changed and we all need to adapt. So, we are going to start language lessons via Zoom. Give us a shout if you are interested - weekly English classes first and soon after, daily!

Happy Africa Day to our KLI family - especially to our students from all over Africa who have shared their unique cultures with us over the years...give us a shout out in the comments (don't forget to list your country) 🇿🇦 Africa belongs to all who call this great continent home!

Thank you to ControlPro for helping KLI access much-needed funds for our staff during lockdown. It is so disheartening to not be able to operate the way we normally do - no classes means no income for us. Online language teaching only works in certain situations. We are hopeful that we will soon be back to teaching our students face-to-face again

The UIF TERS Relief Benefit is still available for April applications. As an essential services provider, ControlPro applied for a number of EMPLOYERS in the month of April and have been successful. We applied for 84 employees and only 15 are still in process!

Never be afraid of taking that first step no matter how hard it seems to be. The end result is more rewarding and fulfilling. Strive to do that one thing, whether big or small. We may be in lockdown but we are still a free country!

Today is World Book Day! We celebrate the day with an excerpt from the book written by Nelson Mandela, The Long Walk to Freedom. In it, he said, "I am fundamentally an optimist...Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward." These are valuable and encouraging words to hold onto during this very difficult time of lockdown. Let's embrace our hope for the future and continue moving forward

We are continuing with language lessons, remotely (making use of popular technology). This will lower the risk of spreading COVID-19. Let's all do our bit to make sure everyone stays safe during this unsettling time.
