It was wonderful to welcome back St John’s D.S.G. Old Girl, Ntando Dube, Head Girl of the Class of 2020, who returned to St John’s D.S.G. as a leader of one of our 2026 uHambo groups.

Ntando first experienced uHambo as a Grade 9 girl, back in 2017, and it is so special to see her return to share her experience, wisdom and leadership with our current girls.

uHambo is so much more than a journey through the mountains. It is an experience that challenges girls, develops leadership, builds resilience and creates strong bonds between them.

We love seeing our St John’s D.S.G. Old Girls give back to the school community that helped shape them. 💛

St John’s D.S.G. Old Girl, Sarah Clark (née Lait, Class of 2009), and her husband, Trav, are delighted to announce the arrival of their second-born daughter, Hannah Lynn, born on 29 June.

Now in their eighth year living in Vietnam, the Clark family are looking forward to introducing both Zoe and Hannah to many exciting international adventures in the years ahead.

Congratulations to Sarah, Trav and “big sister” Zoe! We wish the Clark family a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness as they embrace this wonderful new chapter as a family of four. 💛

St John’s D.S.G. Old Girl, Kelly McBean (Class of 2004), and her husband, Karl, joyfully welcomed the arrival of their second-born son, Oliver Edward Lester, on 22 April. Oliver is proudly adored by his big brother, Finn, and big sister, Ava.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Kelly and her family and wish them many years of love, laughter, and happiness as they embrace this wonderful new chapter as a family of five. 💛

There’s something special about seeing the next generation experience the school that has meant so much to so many St John’s D.S.G. Old Girls.

This week, Old Girl Sarah Corlett (née Seggie, Class of 1999) arranged for her daughter, Tessa, a Grade 10 pupil at Springfield Convent School in Cape Town, to spend two days in Boarding with Rebecca Jackson, a Grade 11 pupil at St John’s D.S.G. Rebecca is the daughter of fellow Old Girl Caryn Jackson (née Janse van Rensburg, Class of 1999).

For Sarah, whose family has a long and cherished history with St John’s D.S.G., the visit was especially meaningful. Her mother, Sr. Chris Seggie, served as the school’s nurse for 21 years, while her father, Rob Seggie, was a member of the School Board of Governors for many years. Her aunt, Linda Seggie (Dux of 1980), and both her sisters, Kate Maughan-Brown (Class of 1995) and Ruth Seggie (Class of 1999), are also Old Girls, making St John’s D.S.G. an enduring part of the family’s story.

Tessa returned home full of stories about the warm welcome she received, the friendships she made, and the wonderful sense of community she experienced, proof that the spirit of St John’s D.S.G. continues to connect generations and create lifelong connections. 💛

What does sisterhood mean to you now, after years of leaving school?

For me, sisterhood is not about how often we see each other or how frequently we speak. It is about the lasting bond created through shared experiences, and the love, respect, and goodwill that remain even when life takes us in different directions.

Distance, busy lives, and changing circumstances do not lessen how much we care for one another. True sisterhood means celebrating each other’s successes, supporting one another through challenges, and knowing that a relationship is not defined by physical presence, but by the genuine care and affection that endure over time.

Why did you choose to serve on the Old Girls ’ Association Committee, and what do you hope to bring to the community?

I chose to serve because I believe in the value of sisterhood and the importance of maintaining the connections that unite generations of St John’s D.S.G. women. The school played a meaningful role in shaping who I am, and serving on the committee is an opportunity to give back to a community that continues to have a positive impact on so many lives.

I hope to bring enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and a spirit of inclusion, helping to strengthen connections between past and present pupils. Most importantly, I want to contribute to a community where women continue to support, encourage, and celebrate one another long after they have left the school gates.

What advice would you give to current St John’s D.S.G. girls?

Cherish the friendships you make at school. As life unfolds, you will follow different paths, but the bonds you build now can last a lifetime. Most importantly, be the kind of woman who lifts others up. Your success will be measured not only by what you achieve, but also by the positive impact you have on those around you. True sisterhood is one of life’s greatest gifts, never take it for granted.
