KZN POLITICAL PARTIES COMMIT TO PEACEFUL, FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Hon. Thamsanqa Ntuli, today joined political party leaders and key stakeholders in Olive Convention Centre, Durban for the signing of the Provincial Electoral Code of Conduct, ahead of the 4 November Local Government Elections.

The Premier described the occasion as more than a procedural exercise saying it is a solemn commitment to ensuring that the electoral contest in KwaZulu-Natal is conducted with peace, discipline, respect and integrity.

Political leaders were urged to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters, reject intimidation, hate speech, misinformation and violence, and recognise that political opponents are not enemies, but fellow citizens and neighbours.

As KwaZulu-Natal moves towards the elections, the message is clear, "Let us reject violence and choose peace, stability and democratic maturity".

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 23 September 2026, the Premier, convened a Multi-Party Political Intervention Committee which serve to promote fair competion and contestation as we are heading to the Local Government Elections. He encouraged all political parties to use the committee to robustly engage and amicably resolve whatever issues that may arise during the campaign season and the actual elections.

*PREMIER NTULI CALLS FOR INNOVATIVE PROGRAMME OF ACTION TO CURB SCOURGE OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND FEMICIDE IN THE PROVINCE*

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, emphasized an urgent need for provincial government to conceptualize and implement innovative programme of action to curb the rampant scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide gripping the province.

Premier Ntuli was speaking at the Council Against Crime engagement at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville, earlier today, Friday 25 September 2026.

"Our province is currently gripped by a sharp surge in cases of GBV&F. To this end, I call for improved collaboration from civil society, organs of state and various stakeholders," said Premier Ntuli.

The Premier reiterated the need for Amakhosi to champion behavioural change amongst men and promote positive male role models that protect and respect the dignity of women.

The Premier also mentioned programmes like which are influential in fighting GBV&F throughout the year.

"Gender-based violence occurs everyday. It does not go on holiday when the festive season arrives. It follows women wherever they go, 365 days a year. Many people think that is a campaign targeted at foreign nationals.

"That is not true. The suspect who appeared in court on Monday, accused of ra**ng more than 14 women was from KwaZulu-Natal. The same applies to the suspected serial ra**st who was arrested in oPhongolo. He is also from the province," said Premier Ntuli.

Furthermore, the Premier pointed that the women who are victims of GBV&F are not just statistics.

"Victims of GBV&F are our sisters, mothers, daughters, nieces and wives. They are one of us," concluded Premier Ntuli.

PREMIER NTULI TO CONVENE COUNCIL AGAINST CRIME AS KZN INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY SAFETY

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, will on Friday, 25 September 2026, convene a Council Against Crime as the province intensifies efforts to confront crime and strengthen community safety.

The council comes at a critical time for KwaZulu-Natal, with the latest crime statistics continuing to place violent crime firmly among the most pressing challenges. While the latest figures show a decline in murder, 1,179 people were still killed in KwaZulu-Natal during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.

Beyond the human cost, crime has wider implications for the province’s development ambitions. KwaZulu-Natal is seeking to attract investment, expand tourism and stimulate local economies. Persistent crime, business crime and extortion can undermine these efforts by increasing the cost of doing business, disrupting economic activity, and affecting investor and community confidence.

The council will therefore provide a platform for government and key stakeholders to consider a coordinated response to crime, its impact on communities and businesses, and the implications for KwaZulu-Natal’s economic development agenda.

The engagement takes place as the country prepares for the 2026 Local Government Elections, placing renewed public attention on the ability of local government and its partners to create safer, functional and economically active communities.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli has arrived at the Ziko area, KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, following the fatal shooting of eleven people late last night.

Premier Ntuli says according to residents of the Ziko area, discharging of fi****ms at night is a regular occurrence. Also, the use of drugs and other substances is a major concern in this community.

Honourable Ntuli urges community members to come forward with any intelligence information that may assist law enforcement.

The Premier further commented that he is optimistic that law enforcement will effect arrests soon.
