Legacy Society Outreach
On Monday, 21 September, the Legacy Society embarked on its second outreach of the year, visiting Caluza Primary and Edendale Primary Schools.
These visits form part of the Legacy Pledge to “create stepping stones for future generations.” During their presentations, Legacy members focused on the importance of respect, not only for teachers and elders, but also for peers. They also highlighted the importance of self-respect, including the need to establish and maintain healthy boundaries. Through these interactions, the Legacy Society hopes to empower Grade 6 and 7 learners by reminding them that they matter and that their voices deserve to be heard. Members also spend time engaging with learners in small groups, creating a welcoming space where they can ask questions, share their thoughts and seek guidance.

Yesterday, our school had the privilege of celebrating the creativity, talent and hard work of our Matric Art learners at our Matric Art Exhibition.

An exhibition like this represents so much more than the completion of a school subject. It gives our young artists the opportunity to share their ideas, experiences and creativity with an audience, while taking those important first steps towards seeing themselves as artists and creative individuals beyond the classroom.

We were privileged to have Kathy Jacob Kathy's Art Studio, join us as our Guest Speaker, Kathy is a passionate supporter, mentor and advocate for visual artists in KwaZulu-Natal. She is well known for her role in Art in the Country, a prestigious annual art exhibition that provides a platform for talented artists while celebrating the rich and diverse artistic community of our province.

Her commitment to mentoring and encouraging emerging artists made her involvement in our learners' exhibition particularly meaningful.

Congratulations to our Matric Art learners on a wonderful exhibition. Your creativity, dedication and willingness to share your work with others is something to be proud of.

Today, we celebrated International Literacy Day by recognising the outstanding readers in each grade at Russell High School.

It is always a joy to acknowledge the dedication, enthusiasm and love of reading shown by our learners. Certificates were presented during class, and it was heartwarming to see the pride, encouragement and support shown by classmates as each reader was recognised.

A special congratulations goes to one of our remarkable Grade 8 learners, who was named Russell High’s Top Reader of 2026 after reading an incredible 86 books so far this year.

Behind every busy day, every solved problem, every answered question and every little detail that keeps our school moving, there are remarkable women making it happen. You are an important part of what makes our school feel like a home and a family.

Happy Secretary’s Day!

Good luck, Matrics!

Walk into those trials knowing you are surrounded by people who believe in you. Support one another, believe in yourselves, and remember, you are never walking alone.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of a beloved former member of the Russell High School family, who recently lost her courageous and lengthy battle with metastatic cancer.

For 16 years, she was part of the Russell High family, giving her time, kindness and care to our school community and leaving a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched.

She was a truly special person who had an extraordinary way of making people feel seen, valued and cared for. She took the time to get to know every member of staff, always ready with a listening ear, thoughtful advice, words of comfort and a kindness that came so naturally to her.

Despite the challenges she faced, she continued to exude positivity, warmth and an unwavering belief in the future. Her strength, grace and joyful outlook were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

While we take comfort in knowing that her long battle is finally over and that she may now rest peacefully, our hearts are sore. She will be deeply missed, and the world feels a little dimmer without her shining light.

Russell High School extends our heartfelt love, sympathy and support to her children, extended family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in the beautiful memories she leaves behind and in the many lives she touched along the way.
