This year, our Grade 9 girls headed off on their uHambo journey, but while they were tackling the real mountains, our Grade Rs were busy preparing for their own adventure!
We asked Miss Coutts, our awesome Grade R Teacher, to tell us about the experience…
“It was a “loooong” bus ride, and one little voice from the back called out, “I miss my mom already!” Thankfully, the sighs of relief when we arrived at our “mountains” were quickly replaced by excitement.
The girls tackled hiking, tent-building and cycling, working together and encouraging one another along the way. Some even bravely took their training wheels off for the first time! A Fizzer break helped keep the hikers going, while receiving letters from their family group members was a special highlight.
The girls’ imaginations were also in full swing. Apparently, we were heading to Lesotho for “13 days” on a “private jet”! One little Eaglet summed it up perfectly: “We’re going to Lesotho but not really. I’ll use my brain to imagine.”
It was a wonderful day of courage, independence, teamwork and plenty of laughter. These little Eaglets have a few years to go before their uHambo 2032, but they’re already off to a great start!”💛
