Ridgeland Toastmasters club had a special guest visitor, 4th year Criminologist and Criminal Justice Ph.D. student from the University of South Carolina. Her response should speak volumes about how incredibly important this program is for our returning citizens.

“ Hi Jodie, thank you for inviting me to the Toastmasters open house and your WhyTry class. I had a phenomenal time. It was lovely meeting you! The work you do is incredible. Your participants and Ridgeland Correctional - they are lucky to have you. If I lived closer I would offer to volunteer in some capacity, but I don’t think my old Subaru would love that. If you need someone to run numbers and analyze and your data for any of your programs, I’d be more than happy to prepare reports to demonstrate its importance to SCDC. “

The club has disbanded. The only club left in the Lowcountry is a prison Toastmasters club that meets every Wednesday at Ridgeland Correctional Institution. The club is still open for new members and we would be so honored to have you join us. But you have to go through the background check thing to come on a regular basis. Call me for more information. I just got invited to be a guest presenter at the John Jay College for Criminal Justice this Fall. The credit goes to my fellow Toastmasters who have, over decades, helped me hone my communication and leadership skills. I’ll be speaking about my experience as prison volunteer in a third year Sociology class. Talk about a career booster. More to come!
