I’ve been teaching preschool for 17 years and I’m a mom of five, so I’ve seen a lot of kids walk through those classroom doors. Here are my top five things (okay… six!) to focus on with your child before they start preschool—and it might not be what you think. We want to share something important with you

On February 12, early childhood providers from all five boroughs—including many community-based preschools like ours—will be gathering at City Hall to advocate for fair funding and pay parity for early childhood programs. I am also serving as one of the organizers of this effort, alongside other early childhood leaders.

For 7 years, programs like ours have operated without a cost-of-living adjustment, while expenses such as rent, supplies, utilities, and staff wages have continued to rise. While Pre-K and 3K are free for families, operating high-quality programs is not—and this growing gap is putting real strain on early childhood education across NYC.

This advocacy is about:
• Stability for programs
• Fair pay for educators
• Keeping classrooms open and staffed
• Protecting the quality of care your children receive

Most importantly, this does not impact your child’s care or schedule. Our classrooms remain our top priority, always.

We believe families deserve transparency, and children deserve programs that can survive and thrive. Thank you for your continued trust, support, and partnership.

NYC is piloting a new program called STREAM. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and the foundational components of Computer Science into learning experiences for our youngest learners.

We are extremely excited to announce that out of 700 schools in NY, 80 schools around NYC were carefully selected for the pilot and we were 1 of 7 on Staten Island. We have our 1st zoom meeting about it today and can’t wait to get it started and share it with the children 😊
