Moving out doesn’t have to mean throwing everything away 🌎♻️
CSI Sustainability is helping make dorm move-out more sustainable through our Zero Waste Dorms Move Out initiative! Donate items you no longer need so they can find a second home with future students next semester 💚
From clothing and dishes to lamps, cleaning supplies, and unopened food, every donation helps reduce waste and keeps usable items out of landfills.

🌱♻️ The sound of aggressive veggie chopping could only mean one thing… CSI Sustainability’s Compost Workshop 🥕🔪😭
Last Thursday, students got hands-on learning how composting works, what food scraps can actually be reused, and how small changes can help reduce waste on campus 🌎💚
Thank you to everyone who came out, chopped veggies, and got a little messy with us 👀 Stay tuned for more events!

Recycling isn’t just about trying—it’s about sorting correctly.
Here’s what matters:
• High capture rate = items in the right bins
• Low contamination rate = less recycling ruined
• High diversion rate = more waste kept out of landfills
3S leads the way with strong sorting habits and the best results on campus.
1C falls behind due to heavy contamination—meaning much of their recycling couldn’t be recycled at all.
The takeaway: even recyclable items become trash if placed in the wrong bin.
Small habits make a big difference

Where does our campus waste actually go? ♻️🗑️
CSI Sustainability recently conducted a campus waste audit to better understand how waste is being sorted across campus. The results revealed both strong recycling efforts and areas for improvement.
A waste audit measures:
♻️ Capture Rate — how much waste is sorted correctly
🚫 Contamination Rate — how much waste is sorted incorrectly
🌱 Diversion Rate — how much recyclable material is kept out of landfills
🏆 Top performing buildings:
1️⃣ 3S
2️⃣ 1A
3️⃣ 2M
3S stood out with high capture rates, low contamination, and the highest actual diversion rate on campus 👏
The audit also showed that some waste stations can be confusing due to inconsistent bin systems across buildings — making proper sorting more difficult for students.
Small actions make a BIG impact:
✔️ Read recycling labels carefully
✔️ Separate trash properly
✔️ Recycle clean paper and plastic whenever possible
Together, we can create a cleaner, more sustainable CSI!!🌎💚
