Happy Day Play founder and CEO Kaitlynn Blyth was quoted in Funktasy Magazine on the default parent and the invisible labor of motherhood.

Her advice is a shift in domains. One parent fully owns bedtime start to finish, including remembering the bath and restocking the pajamas that no longer fit. The other stops hovering to correct how it gets done.

As Kaitlynn puts it, evening out the load usually brings the warmth back too. The kids are watching that repair, and they take notes on the fix the same way they took notes on the imbalance.

We say this a lot, and we mean it. When a child sorts blocks by size, they are doing math. When they narrate a story to a stuffed animal, they are building the language skills that reading depends on. When they pour water back and forth between cups, they are running an experiment on volume.

Play is how learning happens at this age. That is why you will not find us handing a two year old a worksheet and calling it academics.

The research backs this up, and so does every class we have ever taught.

➡️ What is the hill you will die on as a parent or educator? Tell us in the comments.

Nobody tells you that the first day is harder on the grown ups, but that you all make it through (maybe with a lot of tissues in the car after!) 💛 🏫 Here is what I want you to know as a Certified Family Life Educator and as a mom of two who has done this drop-off herself.
♥️ The tears are not a sign that something went wrong. ♥️ The meltdown at pickup is not a sign that you chose the wrong school.
♥️ Your child holding it together all day and falling apart in your arms means you are their safe place.

This transition can be hard on the whole family, not just the little person wearing the backpack. Give yourself the same weeks of grace you are giving them.

➡️ Save this for the school mornings that feel heavy.

Big news to share. Our founder, Ms. Kaitlynn, was quoted in Funktasy Magazine in an article about default parenting and the invisible labor that so many mothers carry.

If you have ever been the parent who knows the shoe sizes, the doctor appointments, the permission slips, and the exact location of the water bottle, this one is for you. Kaitlynn shared a practical place to start, which is having one parent take full ownership of a routine like bedtime instead of helping with parts of it, while the other steps back from correcting how it gets done.

Her favorite part of the conversation was about the children. They notice the imbalance, and they notice the repair just as much.

We are honored to be part of this conversation. Give it a read and let us know what resonates: https://funktasy.com/lifestyle/the-default-parent/

Kids Castle in Doylestown, PA is an eight-story wooden castle playground, and it is completely free 🥳

There are towers, tunnels, crawl spaces, bridges, and slides that go from the top all the way down. The main structure is built for the 5 to 12 crowd, but there is a smaller pirate ship and swing area that works for toddlers and preschoolers.

Accessible ramps, adaptive swings, and ground-level play mean kids of all abilities can get in on it.

It sits inside Central Park at 425 Wells Road with picnic space and a big hill, so pack lunch and plan to stay a while. Open seven days a week, dawn to dusk.

➡️ Save this one for your next family day trip.
