Today we bagged up some amazing sweet peppers from Otter Point Farm for Farmacy, a perfect pairing for this months Vermont Harvest of the Month spotlight!

Peppers are the Vermont Harvest of the Month!

Peppers are native to Central and South America. There are dozens of varieties of sweet peppers like bell and lunchbox, many of which are rich in important nutrients like Vitamin C and potassium.

Did you miss our latest VFFC Campus Renovation newsletter? We’re going to be sharing some of the highlights from our most recent update here on social media over the next few weeks, so you can follow along with all that’s happening on campus!

If you’ve been following along with our campus redevelopment project, you know that one of the biggest changes this summer has been the removal of Old Blue.

It was powerful to witness the careful dismantling of this remarkably well-built, three-story building from the 1860s. Everyone involved in the demolition was struck by the craftsmanship and quality of construction that went into the building more than 160 years ago.

And even as we said goodbye to Old Blue, we uncovered a little more of its story. Hundreds of historical files documenting business transactions from the original Lincoln Iron Works were discovered during the process. Those records have been preserved and entrusted to a local historian who will help document this fascinating piece of our campus history.

So while Old Blue is gone, a piece of its history will remain with us. ❤️

This is just one chapter in the ongoing transformation of the VFFC campus—and over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more about the progress, the people, the partnerships, and what’s coming next.

Stay tuned!

Established in 2017, East Creek Stock Farm was formerly a dairy farm owned by Rachel’s family. Today, the farm has transitioned to a grass-based operation and raises mother brood cows and yearlings, purchases feeder cattle, and also offers seasonal custom grazing. 🐂🌿

We hope to see you at this year’s Harvest Fest fundraiser dinner!

It’s a tradition that’s been going strong for over a decade here at VFFC, where each fall we come together in Farmers Hall for a memorable farm-to-table meal featuring the harvest of the season — and a celebration with farmers, families, volunteers, partners, community, and the bounty of the land.

This year, we’ll gather on Sunday, October 18 from 5–7 PM at Farmers Hall in Rutland.

📅 Save the Date!

Tickets and more details coming soon. We can’t wait to gather around the table with you!

Our weekly Friday Farmacy Feature - for week #8 of our 15 week Farmacy season!

This week, we’re shining a little sunshine on Singing Cedars Farmstead in Orwell, Vermont and the lovely cherry tomatoes they provided for this week’s Farmacy shares! We’re grateful to Scott, Becky and his crew for helping fill Farmacy shares with fresh, local goodness!

And we’re sending a big thank-you to the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust for awarding grant funding to Farmacy this year. Your support helps us make sure the farmers who work so hard to grow this food are supported, too!

What’s NEW on the VFFC Online Market this week?

There are lots of fresh, local goodies waiting for you on the market—and one of the most fun newcomers this week is the husk cherry! 🍒

Have you ever had a husk cherry (aka ground cherry) before?
Everyone seems to taste something different! We’ve heard husk cherries described as tasting like pineapple, tomatoes, and even bread & butter!

They’re delicious eaten fresh, tossed into salads, added to salsas, or used in desserts—and they’re definitely worth trying while they’re in season!

This is what the weekly Wednesday lineup looks like at VFFC on West street! 🚗🚙🚗

Every Wednesday, cars line up to pick up Farmacy shares and personal local food orders from the VFFC Online Market. We love seeing our community show up each week for fresh, local food even in our current drive-thru form!

Farmacy shifted to a drive-thru model during the pandemic in 2020, and while this setup helped us continue serving our community, we've missed the opportunity to properly mingle, connect, and socialize with one another during these pick-ups like we used to.

That's why we're especially excited about what next year will bring! We look forward to welcoming Farmacy back into our Farmers Hall, where we can once again gather, build community, and make food pickup about more than just getting groceries. 💚

For now, we'll keep the Wednesday lineup rolling!

Exciting news for our area farms and producers!

Starting September 14th, Farm Connex trucks 🚚 from The Center for an Agricultural Economy will begin cross-docking at Vermont Farmers Food Center!

This new opportunity will help local producers expand their market reach beyond Rutland County. Producers can use VFFC as a convenient drop point to get products onto the Farm Connex truck and reach potential buyers throughout Vermont—all while maintaining their own buyer relationships and managing their own orders.

With our expanded cooler and freezer space coming online this fall, VFFC will have the capacity to accommodate orders ranging from individual cases to full pallets. We are incredibly excited about this expansion and the continued growth of our food hub facilities to help get more amazing Vermont-grown and Vermont-made food onto tables around the state! 🌾❤️
