One of the things that makes Portland special is its rich and growing French education landscape.
Across the metro area, families can find a wide range of French-language pathways—from full immersion schools to extracurricular programs and summer experiences—so that no matter where you live, there is likely a French learning option nearby.
As the organizer of Portland’s Bastille Day Festival, the Alliance Française de Portland is proud to bring together this community each year and create a space where these organizations can be discovered and connected.

When the Bastille was stormed in 1789, there were only 7 prisoners inside — but that moment still became one of the most powerful symbols of revolution in French history . Today it’s celebrated with fireworks, music, and street festivities.
From Paris to Portland, the celebration continues! Portland joins the festivities July 12, at The Redd, 1-5pm.

Explore the evolution of French fashion through the visionaries who shaped it—from haute couture icons to cultural revolutionaries.
In this mini-course, we’ll look at the lasting influence of designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin/Courrèges, and Jean-Paul Gaultier. From artistic collaborations and wartime resilience to silhouettes that transformed women’s fashion and modern ideas of identity, each session traces how fashion reflects culture, society, and change.
More than fashion history, this course is an exploration of creativity, power, and reinvention.
