What can contemplative practice and science reveal about the mind’s potential?

Join us at Maitripa College in Portland or online for Dream Yoga & Contemplative Science: The Mind’s Potential with Venerable Ani Choyang on September 18.

A Tenzin Gyatso Science Scholar, Venerable Ani Choyang was among the first Tibetan nuns to participate in Emory University’s two-year science training program through the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative. She brings this background to an exploration of the mind through Buddhist contemplative traditions and science.

This event is part of The Hidden Happiness Tour, September 16–20:

✦ Women’s Wisdom from Monastic Life — September 16
✦ Dream Yoga & Contemplative Science: The Mind’s Potential — September 18

Venerable Lozang Yönten asks us to consider something we already have evidence for: we can change.

We’ve grown through experience, learning, and the conditions of our lives. So if change is already possible, how much further could it go?

From a Buddhist perspective, Buddha nature points to the potential of the mind to change and develop—even toward enlightenment.

Join Venerable Yönten for Mind and Its Potential, the first module of Discovering Buddhism at Maitripa College, beginning September 17.

Venerable Ani Choyang brings a particularly rich perspective to these conversations, drawing from years of monastic study and practice as well as training in science through the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative.

Venerable Lozang Yönten offers a Buddhist perspective on intuition: before trusting what we feel, it can be worth noticing the state of mind it comes from.

Is it arising from attachment, aversion, or agitation? Or from a place of greater calm and clarity?

If you’d like to explore the mind more deeply, join Venerable Yönten for Mind and Its Potential, the first module of Discovering Buddhism at Maitripa College. The series explores how the mind shapes our experiences of happiness and suffering—and how we can recognize and transform destructive patterns through study, reflection, and practice.

Venerable Ani Choyang invites us to look more closely at the difference between reality and our perception of reality. How often do we trust our own perception so completely that we assume, “What I thought is 100% true?”

This September, join Ani Choyang of Jangchub Choeling Nunnery for The Hidden Happiness Tour at Maitripa College, September 16–20. Through talks and practice, the tour explores monastic life, the potential of the mind, and Buddhist approaches to anger, anxiety, and death. Join us in Portland or online for the talks.

The labels other people place on us can quietly become the way we see ourselves. But are those labels really who we are?

Venerable Tenzin Drolma invites us to look more closely at the stories and identities we take on—and to question whether they truly define us. When we loosen our grip on those labels, a different way of relating to ourselves becomes possible.
