Mass transit is underutilized around campus, so how can we improve this system to increase access and connectivity? Students in the Numbers course "Take Charge! Tackling Environmental Problems" have been working all semester to address this big question.
This week, they convened to present and discuss their proposals for this issue with the campus community and a board of 5 transportation experts. Their suggestions included:
π Amplifying connections between the Otterbus (campus shuttle) and the Trimet (city bus) as a well-integrated system
π€³ Revamping the Otterbus app and website to streamline real-time updates
π¬ Educating students about strategies and resources for different transportation options
π Amping up carpooling opportunities to ease parking constraints
Fielding tight budgets, efficiency caveats, and feasibility considerations is no easy task - these students' hard work has been a pivotal step in helping our community keep circulating!
