Last Friday, PELA students headed out to the Portland Art Museum's Japanese-style Cafe!

This term at PELA is shaping up to be a great time for students from around the world to make new friends, improve their English, and explore Portland! Yesterday, new and returning students got to hang out after classes, and today many will be going to the Portland Art Museum's Japanese Cafe.

Welcome back PELA students! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. We missed sharing fun and learning with you, and look forward to all the fun that is to come in 2025. Here are just a few photos from our last big party, our Christmas Celebration, of 2024!

Last week, PELA celebrated Thanksgiving, with teachers and staff serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal for our students! Our students enjoyed turkey, stuffing & potatoes, cranberry sauce & gravy, as well as pumpkin pie!

Can you guess which PELA teacher was a dinosaur last week at our Halloween Party?

At PELA's Halloween Party, PELA students and Teacher Michael carved pumpkins, and everyone voted on which one was the best! Congratulations, Ana Margarita--your amazingly scary pumpkin won!

Every year, PELA students, teachers, and staff celebrate Halloween with a great party with games, pumpkin carving, and a costume contest!

Over the last month, PELA students have been enjoying the transition from summer to fall, with weekly happy hour lunches!

In Portland, there are some great museums, showing the history of Portland and the people who have lived here, from Native Americans to new immigrants.

This term, PELA students & staff celebrated the birthday of our great teacher Laura!

Last term, students in PELA's Level 4 Integrated Skills class created Verb Books to help them remember different verb tenses and when they are used! Bringing art and creativity into an English class is a great way to help students become more engaged in their English learning.
