NW Institute of Electrical Technology

The Northwest Institute of Electrical Technology hosts the Area 1 Inside Electrical JATC, the only open shop electrical program to own and operate our own education and training center. Now is the time to learn and grow in this earn while you learn electrical apprenticeship program. In December 2005, the JATC purchased their own building on NE 42nd Avenue in Portland. This provided the ability to

provide all classes, lab shops, and administrative offices and support in one location. In 2018, JATC and NWIET added a building in Vancouver, Washington. This allowed for more classes and labs on any school night. The Area 1 Inside Electrical JATC is a state certified apprenticeship and training program for the non-union inside electrician. Our program is a four-year education and training program. At the end of four years, our apprentices graduate from our program with over 576 hours of classroom instruction, 8,000 field hours and eligible to take the Oregon state electrical journeyman test. School is one night a week for four hours with additional lab classes scheduled on alternate nights, September through June. Students are responsible for tuition and books. All classes are held at the NWIET/JATC Training Center in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. Classes are progressive. You must start at the beginning of the school year. No late entrees are allowed.
